It's such a ****ty move by the ****tiest team. Every NHL team you would expect would have their own internal way of managing and tracking Cap and use a site like this as a cross reference only. Caps think they're pulling a fast one on other teams but in reality all teams will adjust quickly to not having access to this site in a matter of months and any advantage they gained will be lost quickly. The only people getting screwed are the fans.

Just imagine how much more the Caps will be hated when Ovie scores 42 more goals over the next 2-3 seasons.

LOL

Good news is that's the only thing caps fans will have to cheer about for the next 2-3 years. Hockey is a team game and the caps time as a good one is coming to a close quickly. It'll be a long time before they're even close to lifting the cup again.

You can say the same to other teams who have only lifted the Cup once in 40+ years. NYR, Leafs, Blues, Flames, Canucks(never) Sabres(never), Stars, Flyers.

The Caps made the playoffs without even trying, LOL

They're in rebuild mode, maybe they spend a few bucks and actually try next year to make the playoffs.

I wouldn't be so sure that all teams have their own way of tracking this stuff beyond an excel sheet -- that's the case at more businesses than you think and especially those like the NHL that are incredibly conservative and risk-averse. Buying out a ready-made solution (including hiring the very smart people that created the site) instead of spending much more time and money to build out your own, worse solution is incredibly savvy and fans should be mad that their teams couldn't think of it first.

I'm certainly going to miss the site, but something else -- Puckpedia most likely -- will fill the gap as always. Spare me the hand-wringing about how fans are getting "screwed" by losing essentially what is just a forum. You can still post all of your most deranged mock trades on HFBoards or Twitter!

For the last few season they had pretty much been using CapFriendly as their scouting department. You'd think that the decision to buy CapFriendly would've come after a year or 2 of this. But they are finally buying it and I'm upset we will no longer be able to use it but I con't help feeling sorry for caps fans. This might be the 1st smart decision their team has made in years.

I may dislike the caps but I have no ill will against any caps fans and I think it's unfair to blame them for something they have had no knowledge or control over what has gone down. If they had I'm pretty sure they would've made the decision to buy CapFriendly a couple of years ago!
