Bruins are not cap strapped. They might accept that deal if there is no better offer, but I think you may get outbid. Take Bastian out, Bruins don't have a spot for him.

Siegenthaler is better than Walker, plays LD, and is on much better contract ($3.4m vs $4.9m).
And we don't need a 3rd round pick.
(Siegs gets a late 1st anyway)

I'd undo that tradeoff

Siegenthaler isn't even close to the player Walker is -- and Walker also plays LD. Siegs doesn't get a 1st, either. He's enjoyed a significant drop-off over the past couple of seasons.

In what world are the Bruins NOT cap-strapped? They have $20 million in space right now with only 17 NHLers under contract. Figure they sign Heinen (proj. 4 years @ 3.589) and extend Boqvist (proj. 2 years @ 1.659) and that's $15 million now with 19 under contract. If Swayman gets his rumored 8 x 8, that's $7 million with a need for 3 more contracts -- one of which includes a legitimate top-six C in free agency. If they want to move Pavel Zacha and Charlie Coyle down a line where they deserve to be, they need to move someone and Ullmark is certainly the most movable asset they have in terms of creating cap space.

Siegenthaler had one poor, injury-filled stretch last season.

Is far more valuable than Walker, especially over the long run.

Siegs for Walker would be the definition of buy high sell low. Paying a RHD premium to play him on his offside would also be dumb.

Walker had quite a good year, but it was the 1 year only in a contract year

Heinen and Boquist won't get that much that's how. I'd give Heinen up to 2mil but 3 years. Boquist we could trade or sign, he's not required for our lineup next year

Sean Walker has been exactly as effective as he was this season for like the past five years. Siegenthaler has been bad for 2.5 years. It's not the same, and Walker has played LHD for the past two seasons.

Sean Walker was literally cap dumped at 2.6 million exactly 1 year ago.

they're just not cap strapped. you can look at their page if that would help you.

haven't seen anything about swayman and 8x8.
not sure where you're getting that projection for heinen, but it's kind of bonkers. cut it in half.

i would take another look at the bruins page on capfriendly, and stop falling in love with arbitrary "projections," you're seeing online.

Well thats just wrong. This past season yes. Apparently he had a broken foot (I believe) early on and broke a foot (same one?) again late in the season. At any rate if moved its next yr (but has some type of MC). He will bounce back and have Dougie, D will perform better. It still needs a boost on left side though.

Cap strapped implies you can't sign guys that you need to keep without going over the cap or that a team is over the cap already. You are making claims like the Bruins must trade Ullmark because they must sign UFA Danton Heinen over 3.5m per year. Believe it or not, the Bruins can simply choose not to re-sign Heinen and no one would bat an eye. He is a bottom 6 player on a contending team, not a staple of our top 6.

The Bruins are in a re-tool and they have 20m+ in cap space. Bruins fans are gushing over the flexibility, not wringing their hands about the cap. We have been in way worse cap positions almost every offseason in recent memory. And Bruins fans don't think we are in a must-win contention window, so the roster need not be 100% fixed overnight. We are in a position to let some of the kids play.

The Bruins cap situation is not a significant source of leverage for other teams in Ullmark trade negotiations unless they start making bad signings during UFA. I am sure they would love to trade him before free agency to increase their flexibility even more, but they can also choose to just keep him if the returns are bad in the offseason. There have been multiple ACGMs showing what that might look like.

I used EvolvingHockey's projections for the contracts I listed here, just as I did in the team above -- which I said in the description. Heinen's camp and the Bruins are talking extension as per David Pagnotta, and I assume Boqvist will be extended as he's the only worthwhile RFA even if he's a 4th liner. Have seen multiple reports of Swayman's long-term extension being around the $8 million mark.

yes i saw that, which is why i said don't fall in love with the projections. EH is notoriously bad. like really really bad. they don't even use any semblance of logic, they're playing x box. they've got necas getting 8x9 for crying out loud. their model is just really bad.

Heinola and Samberg are the 2 and 3 LD if Dillon leaves. Even without Dillon the JEts have theoir LD sorted.

I don’t think Heinola should be a full time NHLer this year, someone like Capo or a UFA should be signed and a rotation should be implemented

He beat out Schmidt for an NHL spot last season, which means he was good enough for Rick Bowness to put someone on their off hand playing RD. He couldn't be more ready.

I think either Stanley or Heinola will be traded this offseason. Heinola is no longer waivers exempt, so the Jets have to make a decision at some point.
