"I don't think JGP has that much of a negative value" yet you think NYI need to pay a 3rd to move him for a 6th... That's a lot of negative value!
    Hall isn't worth a 2nd!

I will say that on the premise I do agree with your comments about JGP. The issue is it takes two to make a trade and Kyle Davidson (through actions, not words) has been very consistent that it'll take a 2nd round pick to dump cap/salary. Bailey, Dickinson, Zaitsev, Mrazek's was a 2nd in draft value advancing in the draft. We can all have opinions on where these guys rank on ability to play, but that would be included with the 2nd rounder. Zaitsev was a big dump...it took more. Dickinson was much smaller...so Stillman went back. BUT the common theme was a 2nd.

I'd be very open to the trade because I do think we need a center man that plays a 2-way game and we have (2) years of cap flexibility. I think the same with Anders Lee too, but odds are both won't occur.

No, that's not "a lot" of negative value.

A lot would be adding a 2nd to get rid of him just to get Future Considerations.

Also, I'd argue that if Hall bounces back in 24-25 (let's remember he missed most of 23-24), he'll easily be worth a 2nd rounder at the 2025 deadline, especially with 3M retained

Though Zaitsev and even Dickinson (who pulled a career year out of nowhere in CHI in 23-24) were worse players than Pageau was/is when the Hawks acquired them.

Like I was saying though. It doesn't really matter too much on what the opinion is on quality of player because I could easily disagree with you on Dicksinson. $2.65M for a 26/27-year-old is very different than $5M 31/32-year-old. The 2nd rounder seems to be a requirement and let's be clear. You are asking to dump cap. This isn't a Barzel trade. It's not a "hockey trade". It's a cap dump trade.

***EDIT*** All I'm really trying to do is point out real data points as to what ANY cap dump trade might need to look like.

You made his value less than a 6th rounder.... You added a 3rd, which is still a respectable pick.
    That's A LOT!!!
Your Hall trade has only 300k retained. Missed most the season and you're expecting him to bounce back to when exactly? He's had 1 good season(by his standard) since he won the Hart... I wouldn't bet on it but it is a contract year so it could happen.

I doubt a 3rd is enough for the Hawks to take JGP. Hawks definitely decline that Weber deal. They'll easily get to the cap floor by signing an actual 3rd pair RD, an actual vet 7th D, and some upgrades to the forward group. None of which you did.

Apparently some teams called about him at the TDL, I think atp in his career he is cap dump he would be to Chicago at the very least

JGP is a decent two-way player. Just overpaid for what he provides. I'm guessing any calls on him at the TDL probably involved either retention or the Isles taking a contract back. I'm not saying the Hawks won't take him. But a pick swap from a 6th to a 3rd likely doesn't get it done.

Agreed. There is no reason for the hawks to trade for a player that is no longer playing to hit the floor. They are not that far away from the floor and have made it clear that it is time to start getting better. They will use up the money on decent players and then depending on how the season goes could move them at the deadline or if they are good adds to the locker room they will keep them for a few seasons.

or....drum roll... the Hawks could sign ONE as in a SINGLE ufa to a contract above 2.8 million per year and fill out the roster with league minimum contracts and be above the cap floor without making any trade for a retired player.

Hawks are not taking a player that has surpassed 40 points once in 4 seasons since signing a 5 per deal with 2 years left for a net of a late 3rd a Summer from now. JGP is the Kings 2nd that the Hawks just traded (aka not happening or it would have been done then) or I doubt they would have any interest.
