The Carolina trade could at least make a kick of sense if you looked at it sideways and squinted.

Theres no world where the Ottawa deal makes sense for Anaheim, that it highway robbery for a guy who's greatest asset is his contract which is about to expire.

two of the more overrated players on here Gibson and Zegras.

gibson is good for 2 months then is a below average starter.
zegras is another perimeter winger we dont need.

In what world? Necas outproduced Necas this year and last despite playing a diminshed role. Zegras gets elevated minutes and PP1 time, Necas plays middle six and gets PP2 time. Necas is better.

Andersen's better than Gibson, and it's not close. .932 Andersen or .888 Gibson? Maybe you don't like the fact Andersen didn't play so many games this year, okay let's go back a year. .899 Gibson or .903 Andersen? Let's ignore the fact Andersen had a ,922 in 53 games the season before that too.

Both Carolina players are better here

Are we confident that Necas is really better than Zegras? Cause I’m not so sure about that.

Huh? Necas averaged more ice time and had a higher percentage of his points come on the power play, as he has his entire career. He also, by his own team's admission, can't play center. For as bad as Zegras' outdated defensive reputation is, Necas is actually that bad defensively. He's a scoring winger who's a significant drag on possession and his only season above 55 points came with an inflated on-ice shooting %. That number regressed to the mean this year, and so did his scoring. Zegras has eclipsed 60 points in both of his healthy seasons.

Gibson over Andersen comes down to the league's nearly universal belief that Andersen can't handle a starter's workload and you can't win with him in the playoffs. Obviously, one guy played in front of the best defense in the NHL and one guy played in front of maybe the worst, so the raw SV% is a poor way of comparing them.

Gibson unequivocally fetches more on the trade market than Andersen, not even close.

Necas has outproduced Zegras in consecutive seasons with less minutes, less powerplay time, and a lower caliber linemates. Plus, Necas doesn't have the injury history Zegras is developing

Necas played center this postseason. Necas isn't good defensively, but Zegras is worse. Necas is a more developed version of Zegras, and Zegras' injury are going to lower his value.

Okay, let's take the defense out of it. Goals saved above expected, takes into account the defense and everything. Andersen had a +12.2 GSAx, Gibson had a -9.6. That's up from a -11.5 GSAx the season before. Andersen EASILY is the better goalie. He makes less, and is better. Gibson hasn't had a good season in 5 years

Okay, let's pretend Necas is a capable top-six center. If that's the case, why is Carolina, who badly needs young centers, making it their top priority to move him? It's because they, like the vast majority of the league, don't think he's a center. Meanwhile Zegras was getting praised at the end of the season by his coach and GM for his defensive improvement...while playing center. By xGA/60, Zegras was middle of the pack for Anaheim while Necas was the single worst defensive forward on the Canes (among guys who played >20 games).

I actually agree with you on Andersen and Gibson, but the fact is the league views one of them as a starter and one as a backup. Gibson will command more on the trade market and it really won't be close. Hell most Carolina fans on here are including picks to give FA away.

They're not. They want to keep him! It's because teams heard the interview with his dad where he wanted more PP1 ice time and top line minutes and assume he wants out.

Yet, Necas' xGA was better than Zegras... it also accounts for linemates. Zegras is worse defensively.

Andersen is not viewed as a backup, stop. He was the starter on the 3rd best team in the league this season. No one is trying to dump Freddie buddy, whereas Gibson IS a cap dump.

Zegras has a higher career point per game than Necas despite playing on a bottom feeder team

And injury history? Really? He had a lower body injury because he went straight into the regular season without any preseason or camp because of contract negotiations. Then he broke his ankle because of an unfortunate hit. Saying Zegras is becoming injury prone is ridiculous.
