Ther is no chance Jersy makes that deal with Chicago, they could put Bastian on waivers and send him down for minimal cap impacts if he clears or buy him out with a $450,000 cap hit for the next two seasons. To give up a 2nd round pick would be ludicrous.

We are dumping Bastian with a 2nd round pick? I don't think that would be necessary. Foo will never be an NHLer.

Nix Forsberg from Nashville side...would be one of the two goalies. Holtz or a pick...maybe secondary asset.

Evangelista is a complete non-starter for anything involving NSH. Not even a change he gets moved. NSH is already unlikely to move Saros because Askarov is not 100% ready for an NHL starter's crease based on what we have seen in the AHL playoffs (injury aside), so NSH will need a goalie to help him get there. That said, in the unlikely event that Saros is moved, it will not be for that package. Holtz and Palat are of little interest as NSH has wing prospects that are either equal to or better than both of those players.

If you want to get NSH's attention for a Saros deal it is going to start with either Mercer or Casey.

From public reports, it sounds like Trotz is open to moving a goalie (I would imagine Saros' extension plays a big role)

Palat will not be part of any trades, so ignore him.

It would be Holtz and pick....or Casey and pick....(Trotz already asked Fitzgerald for Mercer and Fitzy said no).

It would likely come after 2024, so you'd probably be looking at protected 2025 pick or combination of picks.

Apparently 10OA is in play for a goalie.

Some recent local reports in NSH have said that Trotz is open to the idea, but is not truly considering it unless the deal blows him out of the water. I agree with you it wouldn't happen until July 1st at a minimum. The big issue is that NSH needs centers really badly, but if NSH can't land Mercer, then NSH needs RD more than RW so it would 100% be Casey and the 2025 1st for Saros as the base of the framework.

Even then, I'm still not 100% sold on the idea that Trotz is going to move Saros, as in all local reports for the last month or so, Trotz has said that his number one priority for the offseason is signing Saros, so I just don't think it happens, as much as I would love to see a future blueline that features both Molendyk and Casey as one of the most offensive and lethal bluelines of the future.

For 10OA and Casey, I would be open to moving Saros. More details would need to be flushed out, but I'm open to it.

I agree. Those are the two trade pieces NJ has that make the most sense for NSH. A good RD prospect the Devils don't really have room for, and a shot at drafting a potential #1 center (at least one of Catton, Helenius, or Lindstrom should still be available at 10OA).

#10 alone would pretty much be an overpayment as far as trading for goalies go (even goalies as good as Saros).
Adding Casey on top of that is wholly unprecedented in the cap era.

No chance.

I very specifically did not say the deal would be 10OA and Casey for Saros because I agree with you that it would be unprecedented and there would need to be more details worked out. That said, moving goalies as good as Saros is also unprecedented as the closest comparison is Schneider who when the trade happened hadn't truly played as a starter yet because he was playing with Luongo. Saros has proven he is an elite goaltender with numbers similar to Sorokin and Hellebyuck while also playing 60+ games per season.

There isn't an exact blueprint for this kind of deal, but 10OA and Casey for Saros would be the framework for a deal as the major pieces moving in each direction. Each team gets what they want, NJD getting an elite goaltender and NSH gets a promising RD with high offensive upside, which they desperately need given the RD pool of prospects and current players, and a pick that can secure them someone to be a 1C of the future (Catton, Helenius, Lindstrom all become viable targets for NSH). There would be other random picks or prospects in there to even things out, but there is a deal in there that could reasonably work for both teams.

That likely rules out Saros or Askorov. NSH unlikely to make a move before draft and Devils wouldn’t move it for a rental or a prospect.

I could see something working out for Saros in this situation. The big reason NSH wouldn't want to move Saros before July 1st is because he can't sign any extensions until then. That said, moving him ahead of that date would be fine if it was for something inside the 2024 draft. A lot of what NSH fans have seen are things like Saros for Marner, where neither can sign extensions before July 1st and neither team would want to move either piece without extensions in place or the ability to negotiate something. With something like this there is more room for negotiation prior to the draft to ensure things can happen for both sides, if a deal was to work out.
