I don't buy the Zegras trade stuff but if the Habs did get him I wouldn't mind it too much. Not sure about the other deals though.

You haven't, though. The ghosts of John Tavares and Jonny Gauedreau on the first line, the softest 3rd pair in the league, third line improvements that could have been made through FA with better options, pissing away our future starter for two years of Markstrom, the list goes on and on.

Not to mention how wildly the trades vary in favor. No one's giving up assets for the final year of Tavares deal, you outright fleced Arizona, you overpaid for Markstrom, and they have Wolf so why take Dostal. Just all around bad.

Chicago doesn't need/want Gibson.

None of these trades makes Anaheim better in the short run OR the long run. But I'd like you to focus specifically on the Zegras - Markstrom - Gaudreau combination. You traded Zegras for three draft picks, which doesn't make the team better now but makes it instantly much, much worse, requiring the expenditure of additional assets to replace him. Specifically, you acquired a first and a third in that deal which you flipped for Gaudreau (plus another third which disappeared in the Markstrom trade). So you ended up trading Zegras, Colangelo, Pastujov, Dostal, the Boston second and the Edmonton fifth for Gaudreau and Markstrom. That's beyond horrible to intergalactically atrocious.

When trading for RFAs, it's a good idea to sign them to new contracts.

Don't be discouraged -- many of our initial efforts weren't much better. Keep trying.

Gibson is a terrible goalie and has been for half a decade now. Hawks wouldn't trade a 7th for him.

Good thing this ACGM doesn't have a 7th going to ANA then!
