Minnesota doesn't need or want Brock Nelson. They literally have Rossi and are trying to trade him to open up room for Danila Yurov. So wild like many times wild fans have told you aren't trading their 1st round pick for an older player who's also a free agent. No from Wild.

Brock Nelson is not worth a top 15 pick. Not even close.

If that's all it takes to get Pageau @ 2.5, I'd do that for EDM. But stop proposing that Wahlstrom for Broberg trade because EDM isn't accepting it.

Except he has yet to trade a 1st round pick. I get you don't like him as a GM, but if you actually look at what he does this isn't something he'd do.

He'd instead trade a mid-round pick for a veteran player and then sign that player to an extension with trade protections that effectively blocks a prospect from having a roster spot to compete for so he's forced to consider moving a rookie with a lot of potential to make room because it's basically one of 2 moves he can make.

I have very mixed feelings on Leipold. On the one hand, he's willing to spend to the cap every year and it seems like the team has the resources they need to win. The roster his GMs have constructed generally have a shot at winning any night, so I don't typically have a lot of reservation about paying to watch a game or two each season. Generally.

On the other hand, the mandate to shoot for the playoffs every year seems to come from him and unless the team is willing to pull off some big trades like Vegas, they need to be willing to have a couple bad seasons to bring in some early draft picks. That having been said, the team winning a Cup doesn't impact my day to day life in any meaningful way so I don't generally get too wrapped up in caring if they do. The Timberwolves are in the conference finals and I care as much as I have during the years they were bad and irrelevant. I'm currently far more interested in the PWHL team's playoff run.

I will live a full life if the Wild never win the Cup, but I am also beyond tired of the same exact team and same exact results year after year after year…and this is 100% on Leipold!

On that, we agree. It really makes you wonder if any GM the Wild have had under Leipold's ownership would have done much different if they had complete free reign to do whatever they thought best in the long-term interest of the team's success. Guerin talks a good game about being patient and building through the draft, but part of that process is trading away expiring deals to get more picks and prospects. Maybe he still would have signed the deals he's done, but I feel like a lot of that was it was the easiest way to have a team capable of its annual 5 or 6 game round 1 exit which apparently seems to keep Leipold happy since that's enough revenue to not lose money on the team. Or at least it was during the early days of the Parise/Suter deals.
