The first is nice, but the Jets aren't trading Ehlers for futures only.

Thats fair, what would you want off the sabres roster that you think they would be willing to part with

I don't think Buffalo has anything that they want to trade that fills a need for the Jets. It would need to be a top 4 RHD or a 2C with term or team control.

I know Buffalo has those pieces, but they don't want to move them.

If the Jets know they can flip the futures for a RHD or 2C elsewhere then they probably do it, because Buffalo doesn't really have the pieces that Winnipeg wants. At least Buffalo wouldn't be willing to move those pieces.

I think only way that this happens is if Ehlers comes with a five year extension below 8M

What about Henri Jokiharju or Ryan Johnson along with the package of the 1st, Isak Rosen, and Ryan Johnson. Rosen and Johnson are both NHL ready but have been blocked by the number of prospects the sabres have

You would not be getting a cost controlled 2c or top 4d for a pending UFA

Johnson is LHD,so he isn't needed at all and Jokiharju is a bottom pairing guy and the Jets need top 4 RHD.

Johnson plays both sides but I get what you're saying, and Jokiharju I think is a decent #4, if you look at how many guys put up 20 points a year from the back end and have decent underlying numbers I think he fits into that second right hand slot on the jets pretty nice

Yeah, Joki is okay, but the Jets should be aiming higher if Ehlers is being moved.

Yeah that is fair, i think expectations of what winnipeg will get back for him should be tempered since he is a rental

He won't be traded as a rental. The Jets will trade him to a team where he is willing to extend to get max value.

This implies you think Savoie is more valuable than pick 11 + Rosen. I doubt that’s true

I highly doubt it. He's most likely extended.

Pretty good offer for Ehlers IMO (as long as you like Rosen's potential).
