MTL
  1. Choix de 1e ronde en 2024 (EDM)
Détails additionnels:
ANA GM said they're looking for a top 4 RHD to add and montreal habe mailloux and reinbacher ahead of him in the depth chart so i feel like its a logical trade
ANA
  1. Barron, Justin [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
I don't think montreal need to add a pick on top of barron byt I'm willing to go up as high as a 4th next draft

I don't think that Justin Barron is worth 24th overall. In fact, if Edmonton beats Vancouver and the pick becomes #29, #31 or #32 (it can't be #30), I don't think that he's worth that, either.

Regardless, if Chicago takes Levshunov ahead of Anaheim, I can see us moving back to #5 in exchange for the Winnipeg first.

Agree to disagree on barron, the jets 1st would work for me too, I'll just had to tweak the other trades in order to accomplish the top 9 i want, I'm willing to spend picks (not more 1st rounders though) in order to achieve this draft day for montreal

I'm extremely confused by the Anaheim trade because 1) the Edmonton pick is going to be later than 24OA at this point, and 2) that pick already belongs to the Ducks. How is Montreal going to trade us a pick we already own in order to move up from 5 to 3?

Nevermind. I may be blind and completely missed the first trade where Anaheim gets Barron and sends the EDM pick to Montreal initially

Change Matheson to Guhle

Don't carry our previous conversation here, we both know you ain't getting guhle for holtz because guhle has so much more value at this point, but I'm willing to change holtz for mercer but ill also take out the WPG 1st amd give you a 2nd in 2024 and a 3rd in 2025 instead

TLDR on Barron: Ducks aren’t interested
Ducks need a defensive minded veteran RHD like Gudas to pair with their LHD rookies Minty and Zell as they develop. Luneau would be the rookie RD to pair with Fowler, and he’d be in front of Barron in our pipeline as well. Verbeek already said he’ll be with the Ducks next year.

TLDR on swapping early firsts for a late 1st: This feels plausible
Depending on who ANA covets, this seems possible. That said, I personally think it’d be more interesting if ANA has a path to package the 2 late firsts they’d have into something in the 11-16 range. If there’s a path to get a Yakemchuk, Helenius, MBN, all the more likely

Side note: many thanks for being the rare MTL fan proposing an ANA trade that doesn’t include the ridiculously repetitive Zegras trade every ANA fan has poo pood 🙏

I think as a MTL fan i look at savard and i see a very likely late 1st at the TDL , he's also the perfect partner to rookie hutson but I'm willing to part ways with him at the draft of it means the plan happening, will savard be interesting as a top 4 RHD to you ? He could be the partner you want for your rookie and be traded for a late 1st at the deadline so basically you're trading the EDM in 2024 for a late 1st in 2025 and getting a few month of top notch veteran mentor service for your trouble

Well we most certainly wouldn’t give you a 1st for Barron laugh laugh

If Levshunov goes at 2, I’d be okay if we traded down a couple spots

As a FA, maybe. In a trade, no.

There are plenty of FAs ANA can overpay on a 2 year deal to play the role without having to sacrifice any assets. You don’t trade a 1st round pick while rebuilding for a UFA vet who will be off your books well before your window actually opens just to pair with and mentor your youth

In general, ANA and MTL make terrible trade partners. We have surpluses in similar spots (LD) and are also at similar points in our rebuilds

Don't be condescending, barron most certainly still holds the value of a late 1st

As i explained, you don't spend anything you're basically switching a 1st for next year

That NJD trade is revolting. The devils have no use for Mike Matheson or any defenseman that requires time on the power play to be effective. They already have 3 defensemen that are capable of playing on the power play. Christian Dvorak at this point is a cap dump.

What you basically offered was for New Jersey to move back in the draft and give up Alexander Holtz for cap dump and a player they won’t be able to utilize properly. No thank you.

How???

Currently a part time AHLer and looking like a 3rd pairing guy

Doesn’t sound like he’s worth a 1st to me

Barron is more likely to go unclaimed on waivers than he is to return a 1st round pick by himself

Canes pass. Necas is worth a lot more to the Canes now than what the 11OA pick MIGHT be in 3-4 seasons. Harris provided no value to the trade. Good starting point, but not enough to force an unwilling hand.

No you’re not just getting that pick later. You’re gambling that you’ll be able to get the pick back later.

We were all but sure that Klingberg would net us a late first 50% retained when we signed him to the 1 year deal last season and look how that turned out. Not only is there underperformance risk, but injury risk, and also market risk. A ton of guys you would’ve thought had solid value went for a lot less than expected this past year (see Tanev, Guentzel, etc).

Hard pass on trading anything of value for Savard. We’ll just sign a free agent
