If your argument is that his value is reduced because he's a lame duck, then why doesn't that apply geometrically to your guy who has an almost unmanageable contract?

The Hawks would not retain on Jones for 6 years. The Hawks likely wouldn't include Jones even without retention in a Marner trade. And the Hawks won't be in on Marner at all unless there is an extension in place.
