Calgary would be fine because the Hanifin and Tanev retentions expire. The point was more just that it is outrageous to ask a team to use all 3 retention slots in one trade.

And that's not to mention the trade is absolutely awful for Calgary

Again Calgary doesn't want Nylander. All he'd be worth to Calgary is the late 1st + B prospect he could be flipped for with 50% retention.

The rest of that offer wouldn't get even one of those three Flames players without retention.
