That offer would certainly get Stammer's attention. Tampa Bay's run is over. So maybe he considers moving on. That top line would be fun to watch. At least in the O zone Close your eyes when they skate back on D though.

100% agree with you on this. What does this really do for the Hawks long term? Furthermore, overpaying for a stop gap plug makes sense, IF there is value to that player at the TDL in year 2 of the contract. I don't see how a playoff team in 25/26, is going to be able to afford Stamkos at this rate even at 50% retained and at the age of 36 years old.

I totally agree with this take, Tampa has Stamkos now and they are staring a sweep in the eyes. What does he do for the Hawks? For the next two seasons he makes them more competitive but not really a competitor. The value in signing him is having the potential to flip him at the deadline and as @ChiHawk mentioned, that becomes extremely difficult due to the extreme overpay.

This would be very similar to the Leafs bringing in Tavares, when it came time to resign Matthews, Marner and Nylander, none of them took a discount and I have to believe they were measuring their value against JT and his $11m contract.

For sure. When I say "like this" I mainly just mean an overpay. Although, it might take something in and around the $10M range to get a guy like Stammer, among others, to come to CHI at this point in time.
