Leafs aren't trading Marner for bits and pieces. A top prospect and a really good roster player have to be coming back. Or three quality pieces, like the Jets trade with the Kings last summer.

His NMC = hes not going anywhere unless he asks out

Would rather keep him its a contract year coming up that brings the best out of players

Rehkopf and firkus may not be No celebrini but they are definitely very strong prospects. Especially firkus, he’d easily be the leaf’s best prospect.

61 goalie 126 points in 63 WHL games is nuts.

I know we somewhat touched on this earlier but I don’t think this is the deal for Marner. I think something closer to what Winnipeg got for Dubois or what Calgary got for Tkachuk fits the team better because what you have here is a lot more of a project package and unless Toronto is thinking of tearing it down and completely rebuilding, that does’t do much.

Borgen would be the only interesting piece for me. Even then he’s more of a solid #4 guy and I’d expect at least a top 3 d-man for Marner but Borgen isn’t a bad consolation either.

Firkus is just another Marner - probably 3 or 4 years away from that. He’s all skill with no bite. We’ve seen how that’s worked out so I’d stay away from it.

Rehkopf I’d be a bit cautious on. He dominated minor hockey but he didn’t really flourish until his draft plus one year and by then it’s expected to be a step above other juniors. Would be a nice project piece for the future, but preferably I’d like more sure things in a Marner deal.

If Seattle was the team, I’d say maybe something more like:
Borgen + McCann + 2025 1st + Rehkopf

& I’m not retaining on Marner in a deal. Top end players like that shouldn’t be retained on - if Seattle is that cap strapped I’d also take Tanev back in a deal (Toronto had interest in him) and maybe Leafs could send a late round pick as well, but if Seattle demands retention then I tell them to kick rocks
