Merzlikins makes more than twice as much has multiple years left on his contract and is being paid as a starter. Vladar is paid as a backup and didn't get used as much as he should have. The few times he got to play more than once in a while he was fine... In spite of playing with an injury for the last 2 years.

3. Markstrom doesn't have that much value without retention.
4. I don't think anyone takes a chance on Vladar without retention.
