For possibly only 1 year of Mangiapang I don’t like this trade. But I wouldn’t be mad if Montreal did make this trade

If NJ is too cheap to pay for a top goalie nobody is going to give you one anyhow.

Just want you to clarify that you believe Rasmus Andersson and Mackenzie weegar, who are apparently worth 4 combined 1sts to flames fans, cannot hold a candle to a pair of 20 year old rookies?

Brendan Smith and Kevin bahl are quite literally both terrorists.

Siegs and Marino also missed a significant portion of time nursing injuries post deadline to be replaced with Nick Desimone and Santeri Hatakka.

Also that you believe that the Calgary flames current defense is worse than the San Jose Sharks defense? Because if Markstrom can’t perform with that defense, I think I’d prefer Kaapo Kahkonen

Dang I didn’t know that a competent NHL defence core is only made up of 2 players wow 😱

It is funny how you completely ignore the fact that we traded away 4 solid NHL defenders and replaced them with a bunch of waiver adds and fliers on a team that clearly gave up post tdl so using his save percentage as an indictment against him is stupid.

Not to mention that a top 3 goalie all time and the greatest player in your franchises history was the one pushing hard for Markstrom I’m fairly sure he would know better than you on this one.

Its actually adorable that you think Nashville a team that is currently contending and is one of the hottest teams in the league would give up Saros for anything less than an absolute treasure trove of assets lol

By all means hold out for him if you want but when the price makes your stomach turn i’m sure you’ll change your tune 😜

Realistically Markstrom isn’t fetching a top 10 pick without something extra thrown in along with max retention

It would make more sense to give up the Vancouver pick and retain which even that might not get it done but it is much more palatable.

Oh I know we need a top 2 guy for sure!
The fact remains that the leaked rumor was Holtz for Markey. The issue was retention. Fast fwd, now we are not trying to save the season by trading for a G, lost a portion of that 3rd year. There is now going to be some Gs available. How does that make Markeys value worth more?

I was obviously making a comparison.
But let's play- show me what you actually think Saros would go for in the summer in the last yr of his deal with his replacement definitely getting more starts.
Before yiu say Nemec, Mercer and our 24 1st or somergubg wacky, confirm ANYTHING like that has every been done before.
You'll probably find our Cory Schneider for 9thOA that became Horvat

Lets ignore all that first of all are they even willing to trade him?

Look at Nashvilles history, they aren’t a weak team by any means and could easily load up in the offseason and make another run, you really think they’d trust a rookie goalie with starts on a competitive team?

No matter how great Askarov is, think about the fact that Saros backed up Rinne for years so why in the world would they be willing to trade away one of the best starters in the league?

The difference between all these goalies is the level of competitiveness of the teams, Boston and Nashville are both contending while the Flames aren’t which is why Markstrom is even being talked about.

I’d be beyond surprised if Saros isn’t resigned and ends up staying in Nashville so they absolutely wouldn’t trade him unless it was a wacky offer like you said.

Got it, so you think the current flames Dcore is worse than the sharks. Good to know. In that case we’ll take your 1st along with Weegar and Andersson for future considerations, because clearly they are cap dumps if they make Markstrom (who is apparently worth a top 10 pick at 6 mill and 35 years old) play worse than Kaapo Kahkonen

I mostly agree, but who's the 4th D? Tanev, Hanifin, Z.

We lost DeSimone on waivers and he was far from solid. Oesterle was AHL bound from the start. Stone retired in the offseason, Stretcher wasn't brought back either, both were 6th/7th D-men. Gudbronson left 2 years ago.

I don't think it's necessarily worse, but it allowed a lot of grade A chances against since the deadline. Which is to be expected when half your D-core is adjusting to a new team/system.

The Flames also traded for Okhotiuk, who was 5/6 on the Sharks depth chart. Finally, Andersson was playing through something. He was getting maintenance days at practice. I'm guessing it's from the increased amount of shot blocks, after being promoted to PK1.

No that's my bad I meant 3 solid defencemen so basically half your d core is gone and these guys expect Markstrom to play at a vezina level lmao

7th in goals saved above expected is a much better indicator of play than your cherrypicked stat of save % post tdl which is just beyond stupid.

Notice how Kaapo Kahkonen is ranked 57 in the entire league

Im saying that he likely won't be traded and if he was it would be for a much much more significant offer than Markstrom therefore you are wrong and we don't agree at all.

Its like you guys forget to put on your reading glasses whenever theres a Markstrom trade involved lol

Yes, and markstroms GSAx since the trade deadline has been BAD. Which is what we are trying to explain.

Markstrom was truly elite to start the year. But as I consistently said, that was no guarantee that trading for him would have resulted in good play going forward. And sure enough, he has **** the bed since Valentine’s Day.

And so now a 35 year old Markstrom making 6 mill is a lot closer to fleury from Vegas to Chicago than Schneider from Van to NJD
