Doubt Marner would waive
Depends on where too
Make a deal for him to go to DET right now
I think he's be alright with it given they're on the start of their upswing after a Rebuild.
While TML's best years are behind this youth core who've grown into Veteran Core.
If TML can get 2 pieces NHL Ready who exceed Marners Contributions then trading to a rival isnt the end of the world.
I'd say MTL or OTT but they have no need of a Marner right now as a pending UFA after next year.
DET has a couple guys who couldnt make the jump to 2nd C where Marner could give them their scariest top 6 since the 1990s
TML has top 6 C covered so having a Lowry type in Rasmussen a 6'6 3rd line Center who's about to be 25 and fits their timeline
Veleno would likely be the 2nd piece added in as no D that TML wants that DET is willing to give up.
Not that you have to be a French Speaking Center who is viewed as an underdog goes over huge in MTL and for the right price they'd likely give up the most NHL ready oriented Package.
I'd suggest flipping Veleno to MTL for a Struble or Harris who got similar value but both are younger with more flexibility with both RD capable but Struble's built for it playing 2/3 years in NCAA on Harris's RD actually. Ideally we'd package them both in the deal to TOR so they'd include 6'6 Cade Webber in the mix who fits Lavals needs perfectly . Given Webber's style and our Coaches Defense First ,Last and Always approach to the game that makes Claude Julien look like an Offensive Dynamo by proxy. Coach Houle is all about Minutes being earned but giving him 6'6 Webber to joined 6'4 Bisson,6'3 Reinbacher as well as Mailloux with Barron at 6'2 being the smallest will only help Coach Houle build a playoff Contender again and Dobes/ Kaskisu in net will benefit too im sure .
That said it doesnt have to be and TBH you could get more Draft Capital in a deal elsewhere but you wont get NHL Depth that will be or is ready for the NHL.
I guess it depends on the Goal and what you want back in return for Marner whether it be NHL Vet, NHL Prospect/Youth Core piece or Just Picks
Or if its a mixture of all 3 then a 3 way trade likely makes the most sense.
Marner though wont just waive his NMC unless it makes sense for him and his Family.
So shipping him off to SEA to lose as their GM is on a Downward Spiral ,likely isnt on his Bucket List
But close to home in DET where there can be a deal carved out that benefits TML without them needing to take on Cap Back , it makes sense.
But outside that i dont see many teams who need him that make sense for him.
I mean Potentially Brokering a 3 way Deal would be the most likely way to get prospects you want south of the boarder though
Like some Players like Gibson are set in not playing outside USA full time , There's players like Marner in a Position to assure they dont have to.
They're Rare for sure but Getting drafted by your Home Provinces Team 4th OA and becoming the player he has as one of the faces of TML Franchise isnt common.
It took Tavares a decade to get home and live the Dream Marner has always known.
