Isles Abandon Ship

Équipe: 2024-25 Islanders de New York
Date de création initiale: 13 avr. 2024
Publié: 13 avr. 2024

Description
For now this team will lack firepower, but my guess it will compete like crazy, defend well, and be a complete pain in the butt to play against while they re-tool.

  1. Cataford, Mathieu
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2026 (VGK)
Détails additionnels:
Vegas get another plug and play veteran with proven leadership and grit at a discount in exchange for a prospect and a pick. What else is new?
VGK
  1. Lee, Anders (3 500 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Isles move on from Lee but keep half his ticket by dealing him to the always open for business Golden Knights. In return they get Cataford, a decent looking prospect with a bit of a runway and a delayed 2nd.
2.
NYI
  1. Mazur, Carter
  2. Wallinder, William
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (DET)
Détails additionnels:
The Wings import a younger (and cheaper) vet winger to replace Perron whom they can re-sign to help the kids into the post season. They give up a pair of prospects that lie outside of their Top Five and a 1st to get him at a discount plus a 4th.
DET
  1. Nelson, Brock (2 000 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2025 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
Isles move on from Nelson but hold onto a third of his deal who can play both in the middle and on the left side to get younger once more. In return they grab a pair of players who could be ready to go sometime in the next 12 months and a likely middle round 1st. A 4th is also added to the mix.
3.
NYI
  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (NSH)
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2025 (NSH)
Détails additionnels:
Nashville grabs an extremely versatile winger (both sides, multiple roles) with grit at half price who Trotz knows well from his time in New York. He's a perfect Swiss army knife for this kind of team is cheap and costs them only a pair of staggered mid-rounders.
NSH
  1. Palmieri, Kyle (2 500 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
The third vet forward to go, Palmeiri is re-united with Trotz in Nashville. The Isles again pick up part of the tab but get a 3rd and a 4th for their troubles.
4.
NYI
  1. Broberg, Philip [Droits de RFA]
  2. Lavoie, Raphael [Droits de RFA]
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (EDM)
  4. Choix de 2e ronde en 2026 (EDM)
Détails additionnels:
The Oil get a #1 LHD in their prime to pair with Bouchard so Ekholm can move to the right and play with Nurse, leaving Kulak and Ceci as the third pair. It costs them a 1st, a 2nd, a pair of prospects who need a reboot elsewhere. But they have Pelech for four years after this one.
EDM
  1. Pelech, Adam
Détails additionnels:
The Isles open up a spot for Romanov on the top pair by dealing Pelech. A bit younger than the other's he does net them a pair of high picks and, if they can develop them possibly a pair of real contributors down the line. It's not like the Oil has an envious track record there.

Daniel Sprong will get in the neighborhood of 3 x $3,500,000 No way he's getting $5,000,000 per.

The Detroit trade is laugh bad for us, No way Brock Nelson has anywhere near that kind of value.

Imagine Detroit trading a 1st and two solid prospects for "A younger (33 years old) replacement of David Perron".

What the hell even is that?! tears of joy

I don't think Toffoli or Monahan leave Winnipeg. I know the prices are high. No one is going to sign with the Isles because they think they will win a cup after those trades. They will need to be bribed.

Neither of those prospects are in their top five, they are decent, with a chance, but hardly guarantees. I suspect that first will be in the 17 to 20 range. Nelson is 32. He has another three year deal in him.

Compare the return on the Heinique deal

Basically a 1st, 4th and 5th that could become a 4th for an older, more injury prone player with lesser numbers and a 4th liner who isn't even playing every night.

Heinrique has 1 30 goal season to his name and that happened over a decade ago. Nelson has had 30 + in each of the past three years.

Neither of them are in Detroit's Top 5 because Detroit's Top 5 is loaded.

Just because you have a good prospect pool doesn't mean you trade the lower ones for a guy entering his mid-30s lol.

They don't play lefties on the right.

For good reason: defensemen are less effective on their off-hand side.

I like Pelech, but why wouldn't Edmonton use those assets to acquire the RHD equivalent?

They have him listed here as a LD/RD and they would not do that unless Edmonton played him there enough to warrant that.

You need to stop rating players using video games and actually look at similar trades to assess market value.

You need to stop looking at other trades and thinking Steve Yzerman is operating the same way.

He ain't trading a 1st and two good prospects for anybody over 30 in Detroit's current position. You'll get over it, I'm sure.

Wrong. He's been listed that way for years, since his Nashville days. He's only been with Edmonton for the past ~year, and ~60 games under the current coach. He has played on the right side only 5% of his 5v5 TOI this season.

Again - why wouldn't Edmonton simply spend the assets on a RHD equivalent, since that's what they're actually looking for?

No from Detroit. They need those prospects to help add to the young core. Both can be attained, but for a significant upgrade at a position of need. Nelson at 33 is not that.

Yup. Detroit would be calling Calgary and asking how much more they'd need to add to that for Andersson long before they'd give that up for Nelson.

Hell, they'd be calling St. Louis about Buchnevich long before giving that for Nelson.

CF is usually pretty accurate with that. They switched Brodie back and forth as was relevant.

RHD are a higher valued asset and would cost more.
