He can control his destination because of his NMC and other teams know that. So don't expect a blockbuster return if he gets traded.

Then dont trade him lul

Rather keep and extend him then lose a trade this badly

Like if Brad did this = worse trade in NHL history

I don't want him walking for nothing in 2025, and keeping him at 12+ million a year would be a huge mistake. This is the best course of action imo.

Why would he walk?

He's from Toronto area, grew up a leafs fan, etc.

Nylander just got a payday and the Leafs management want to keep the core 3

He's getting his money and no it would not be a huge mistake. When healthy Marner is a 30 goal 100 point player. He is one of the best 2-way playmakers in the NHL and u dont trade that for nothing

Trading him for even worse than pennies would be the worst decision in Brad's early career as Leafs GM

Paying two wingers over 11 million each gets a team nowhere in the playoffs.

Let him get his money elsewhere. Leafs need to invest that money in defense and goaltending.

When Marner's up so is JT there's the money free'd up to go elsewhere. As a 1.1m increase in pay wont change anything in terms of what we can do as we will have 11m free from JT

As said before and will end it here when healthy Marner is a 30 goal 100 point player. He is one of the best 2-way playmakers in the NHL and u dont trade that for nothing or let it walk

You extend em and be done with this silliness

You're right about him in the regular season. He is all that. But in the playoffs he's not. And that's the problem. That's why the Leafs can't afford to invest in him imo. We've seen the data. We've seen playoffs after playoffs that he shrinks in the big games.

But agree to disagree.

They need to follow WPG lead: get a new Captain. Avs had a similar thing trading Duchene to allow MacK to not feel impeded. Give it to Auston, as much as I dislike his overall vibe, he's the posterboy for the new Leafs generation. JT would see the writing on the wall & accept a trade to VGK instead of MM.

Nah.

WPG's change was just getting rid of the cancer in PLD

Was one of the worst trades they made getting him and getting rid of Laine

Once he was finally gone they went back to what they were before

TOR dont need to change much. A new HC maybe but we already saw the new GM change the teams philosophy and its shown. They play with snot and are more willing to be physical

Improve the defense get a new HC and they set

And JT wont waive.

In general its not that it was fumbled so much as nobody could have seen Huberdeau falling off that badly

Everyone praised him for that trade and if Huberdeau stuck to being a 25 goal 80-100 point guy would have been a win/win

Weegar at least has been amazing for CGY almost being a 20 goal guy

So not so much a fumble but more so unlucky. Its basically a learning experience of be a bit more careful. Sure we cant control everything but its a good lesson learned

Oh no I agree 100%. In terms of value at the time Calgary won 8 days a week. Hubby fall off was something no one could see but still giving them those contracts and not flipping them is going to haunt that franchise for years

Honestly Gaudreau probs regretting his descision signing with CBJ lets be real

He was the spark that made Chucky go alright im out to

And when u think of it leaving 10.5m on the table to take 9.75m in FA was so stupid lul

But I understand why CGY didnt want to flip em

They were still a competitive team but some things fell off here and there. It was basically out of their control but the idea was there. They went to R2 that year and wanted to repeat/go further.

I dont blame Brad for trying it was sadly just unlucky in the end in terms of Huberdeau not getting back into form. Who knows maybe 2025 we see FLA Huberdeau finally show up but at least rn hes not totally meh like at the start of the season. Like remember how bad Skinner was till some changes were made, maybe its a matter of time

I mean obviously having hindsight we know it was the wrong choice. And I don't blame him either, Hubby was a top 5 winger at the time and Weags one of the best shutdown D-men in the leauge. I don't blame Brad at all for extending them, I would do the same if I was in his shoes. Maybe this will be a lesson to future GMs but who knows how different Calgary would be if they flipped them right away

I don't think he knows what NTC means. Marner wants to move away from his hometown so he asks for a trade. Didn't hear that rumor anywhere.
