Sorry got mixed up on the name…but as far as Gudbranson goes, he really is starting to not have much of a role on this team. I like Guddy but he is very limited and Olivier and possibly Malatesta can replace his physicality. I also have a feeling the Jackets may be targeting Adam Jiricek in the draft. Spurgeon is a huge regression risk. For a team that is trying to win now it would make more sense for them to get a younger player who is a mil cheap on the cap hit and signed long term during the duration of their most productive yrs.
I don't know how you can watch the games and not think Gudbranson doesn't have an extremely important role on the team. Watch them between whistles and on the bench. Every single young player looks to him, especially with Jenner out. Shoot, even when Jenner is there, they're looking at Guddy. He's here for the duration for good reason, even if he's 7D by 2025.
Adam Jiricek is extremely raw and unlikely to see NHL time for at least three years, and probably longer before he's a regular. He is very much not his brother. Moreover, he's a projected mid-to-late first rounder, a pick which the Jackets do not possess and are unlikely to trade up for. He will not be picked in the top five, and frankly I'm insulted you think the Jackets would trade down from a top six pick to the mid teens. Adam Jiricek has absolutely no relation to Erik Gudbranson's roster spot.
Minnesota isn't in a window now, and arguably a young team needs a vet in leadership more than anything. We make the same argument about Jenner all the time. "Risk for regression" is a stupid bogeyman.
