I like Ferraro's game as much if not more than Pettersson. Adding a 2nd and one the Sharks best and most NHL ready prospects to that is just crazy.

I like Liljegren but the 33rd overall pick is FAR too much for him.

Emberson has been fantastic when healthy. I'd prefer him over over Lundkqvist.

Tampa one I just can't understand. Getting the worse contract only to healthy scratch him

You might. But 32/32 NHL GMs don't. Including Dubas and Grier. So adding would be necessary. Pettersson is an underrated elite defensive dman that elevates everyone he plays with. I think that is actually approaching a fair trade, though probably reduce the 2nd to a 3rd. However, it makes zero sense from SJS perspective. And if PIT is trading Pettersson, it makes more sense to just get futures because roster players are almost guaranteed to be wasted on a rebuild.

Pettersson is the better player right now no doubt, but I don't think it's as wide of a gap as many think it is between him and Ferraro though. And I said I like Ferraro's GAME better. I think his role as a player/leader is more needed to this Sharks team than Pettersson. Add that Pettersson's d-partners have almost exclusively been Karlsson, Letang, Petry (when he was still playing at a high level) and Marino. Ferraro's stats astronomically improve when he has a d-partner of similar caliber.

I agree, Ferraro + 3rd is probably Pettersson's value from an on-ice play perspective, but Ferraro is also a huge leader in the lockerroom. My point is they're somewhat close in value and role, so its a marginal upgrade. So to also give up what's practically a first and a borderline untouchable prospect is absolutely bonkers

Every single one of those RD is worse away from Pettersson over the last two years. Not to mention, Pettersson has been producing at top pairing ES offensive rates over that time as well despite largely being a defensive specialist. And I meant fair value with Ferraro, the 3rd, AND Gushchin. No way I would do Ferraro and only a 3rd.

"Pettersson is an underrated elite defensive dman that elevates everyone he plays with"

So why would the Pens trade him?

A 2nd might be a little pricy for Sturm,
but it would make sense if the Sabres were interested in him

If they are rebuilding it doesn't make sense to keep a late 20s high quality player for a rebuild. Much like why they traded Guentzel.

Yeah Karlsson had an awful season last season didn't he, and Letang was a nobody before Pettersson came around, and Petry didn't carry MTLs blueline in their run to the Finals. I'm really not sure how you came up that logic.

And you must not know much about Gushchin. He'll very likely play a decent amount of games to end this season so I'd recommend tuning in. He's easily worth a late 1st alone. So yeah that's crazy

I explained in detail why Pettersson is better than Ferraro; because he elevates every single partner he has played with over a two year sample with borderline elite offensive metrics. I realize Ferraro is in a very challenging environment making it difficult to ascertain his value. That established, Ferraro + 3rd is likely a major downgrade in the short term AND provides little value in futures. Meaning the trade value makes zero sense to PIT, after it already made zero sense to SJS.
