Boone is not fetching that return....he is a 3C in BUF and might be a good fit, but not at that cost

What do you think his value is?

I am pretty down on Skinner. I know at 50% retained he’s an asset but wanted to move him out.

If Skinner is retained at 50%, then maybe a 2nd rounder and a lower prospect like Biro - who I think needs a new start

Perhaps you misunderstand this proposal. It’s the CBJ who say “no.” Don’t need or want Skinner and Krebs isn’t a much better C option than what they have. The 1st is nice, but it’s only a start. Jenner is a captain on a great contract for a couple more years. I can almost guarantee the Jackets we’re offered a better package at the deadline and rightly spurned it.

Yeah, no - I got it. That is not worth it for BUF. Like I said he would be a 3C and not much more offense than Krebs. Hard pass. Maybe another team would value him more if he was a 2C like Mittelstadt going to COL. But as a 3C it's a diminishd value.

As for Skinner, you're probably right, CBJ scores plenty of goals, why would they need another 30 goal scorer in their lineup? *insert sarcastic tone here*

Jenner does far more for his team and is on pace for roughly the same number of goals as Skinner. You’re not adding “another 30-goal scorer,” you’re merely swapping a couple for each other. Oh, at roughly 1/3 the cap hit, too.

Career numbers, Goals Per Game Avg:
Jenner: 0.27
Skinner: 0.36
Over 82 games, Skinner will net 30, Jenner only 22. Skinner has 6 seasons already of 30+ Goals. Jenner has 1.

Points Per Game Avg.
Jenner: 0.51
Skinner: 0.67
Over 82 games Skinner nets 55 pts, Jenner only 42.

So yes, the cap hit was atrocious for a couple of years, but so was the coaching staff. But overall you get what you pay for. You don't pay that much for the "intangibles" that Jenner brings. These are 2 very different players with very different skill sets, and as such cap hits. If you would rather have Jenner at his cap hit that is fine. But this particular package is an overpay for Jenner. If you want a 1st for him, you are retaining salary and throwing something else in.

Why would anyone give you any serious debate when you're arguing Boone retained is worth less than a 1st? It's one of the silliest things I've read on this site full of very silly things.

When they’re cherry-picked and out of context? Yeah. Absolutely. Not worth the effort.

We’re not talking career numbers, we’re talking right now. Jenner on pace for 25, Skinner for 28 is pretty close. Jenner is on PP and PK. Faceoff % is ~54% Jenner to ~42% Skinner. One’s a leader, one’s not. One is way overpaid, one’s a bargain. Jackets say no and they’re right. You aren’t.

Clearly you don't see all of the Leafs fans on here....

What I was saying is if you want a 1st back AND Skinner retained at 50% you should be retaining AND adding something. It's in the context of the proposed trade...and it's fact. Did you see what retention was getting on most players? 3rd-5th round picks! Jenner is worth a little more due to years left on his contract, but it would normally require retention. Please pay attention next time

You talk about cherry picking stats!?! You just compared faceoff stats between a Center (Jenner) and a WINGER! At the end of the day you can say Skinner is overpaid and no one will argue that; however he is still a solid 30 goal scorer and that makes him SLIGHTLY overpaid. Considering what Laine & Gaudreau have produced like in CBJ they would make this trade in a heartbeat of it was offered. And they would be right and you would be wrong

Right, to emphasize how many more things Jenner offers a team. A center > a winger. Skinner is on pace for 28, not 30. This is 2024 Skinner. Overpaid, not a 30-goal guy anymore, and end of the day you’re just…wrong.

Well we can agree on the premise that a center is more valuable than a winger, generally speaking. But this proposal was Skinner at 50% retained. $4.5M and he is no longer "overpaid" but underpaid which is why along with Krebs and a 1st is an overpayment unless CBJ retained and/or threw in something else....which was my premise 2 days ago...
