Probably many teams would be. Though not sure Smith would waive for them either. Nor that the trade value return on that much dead money would be worth it. Most ownership groups do not like paying dead money. That's why retention is usually only done for rentals at the deadline.

I think you're getting way too little from PIT.

JBD and Ludvig are at best for PIT a wash. JBD is more of a NHLer than Ludvig.
Kleven wasnt a great 2nd round pick but hes got some value, a 3rd? a 4th?
those two together help offset the difference between Jarry and Korpisalo enough that a single 1st added should be the deal.

Way too much from Detroit in that Chychrun deal. I’d be happy to get a 1st between 15-20 this year and maybe a bottom 6 player for him. I’d probably do Detroits 1st this year (if they prefer 2025 then so be it) and Veleno if DET would even have an interest. Kleven probably has more value to Ottawa than any team acquiring him. He’s had a great year in Belleville, not a guy who’s gonna put up a lot of points but he’s a big body, stay at home guy. Plays his game well.

Detroit would probably do that with an extension in place. Wings can't give up a 1st, 2nd, prospect that should be in the NHL, and a NHL 3rd/4th line center for a rental next year when they probably won't be cup contenders. I would appreciate a team taking Holl though.

Switch Berggren or Veleno with Fabbri and that would give us room to sign Roy or resign Ghost.
