Zero chance Winnipeg pays that much for a player that does nothing for them.

Hed become your 2nd best d man instantly, And Iafallo is a cap dump. 23 points in 67 games at 4m is bad

But he's not great defensively and is paid too much to play on the 2nd pair behind Morrissey.

If he was an RHD and good defensively he would fill a need. As it is, he doesn't add anything the Jets need.

I know that Marchessault is 33 and probably cannot command a really long deal, but I would be surprised if he signed for just 3 years, especially given the year he is having this year. This ie likely to be his last contract, so he probably wants one that takes him to 38 or 39 years old.

I think Pittsburgh would want more than that to give up the #9 pick (but I could be worng...it is Dubas after all).

I would trade Matheson somewhere else, such as a team that really needs an offensive minded D-man (Winnipeg has Morrissey already). This would maximize his trade value.

4.875m is now too much for a 2nd pair LHD that gets 50 points? If the Jets need a RHD DFD, resign Demelo, instead of resigning Dillon

This is the only year in Matheson's career that he's been near 50 points, so it isn't a regular occurrence for him. He also not going to get PP1 and top pairing time in Winnipeg like he does in Montreal, so he'll most likely revert to the ~25 to 30 point, one way player he's always been.

It's just not worth moving a 1st for a player like that. If the Jets spend that pick, it needs to be for something that actually fills a need like a stay at home RHD as opposed to more unneeded depth on the left side.

Hes been a 50 point player for 2 years now and would actually get 1st pp time. Jets dont have that great of a forward group. Ehlers, Connor, Scheifeile, Morrissey, Matheson. Jets only have a 19% pp. Its average and not much better than the Habs, with much better forwards. Matheson easily slots in. Also the Jets do not need a RHD. Pionk and Demelo are fine RHD. Roy is in FA. Jets need goals and offense. Matheson gives them that

Sorry, peddle him elsewhere he's only been close to 50 points once, no matter how you try to twist the numbers. He does nothing for Winnipeg and it's unrealistic to think the Jets are going to replace Morrissey on PP1 with an inferior player.

If he was good defensively and an RHD, the Jets might move a first for him, as it stands the Jets can find a better use for those assets than a one way, unneeded LHD to play behind Morrissey.

Iafallo is a checking forward, he's paid for his defensive play rather than offensive production. If the Jets get rid of him, it would likely be for a mid-round pick to a rebuilding team hoping to flip him at the deadline.

Name one big-name UFA the Jets have signed. Winnipeg isn't a very enticing destination to a free agent. Top-end talent in Winnipeg is drafted or traded for, not acquired in FA.

The Jets need a RHD way more than they need a LHD.

Jets LHD under contract (or RFA) next season: Morrissey, Samberg, Stanley, Heinola, Schmidt.
Possible to re-sign: Dillon (but unlikely)

Jets RHD under contract (or RFA) next season: Pionk.
Possible to re-sign: DeMelo (god I hope so), Miller (unlikely but would like to)

There are RHD prospects in the Jets system, but they're all years away from cracking a lineup on a contending team.
