Description
Mtl gets younger and is aggressive at draft day and offseason to move up hopefully selecting demidov or catton and another pick smw in the top 15
They take cap back and get more picks and prospects

This is a look at opening night roster but id sign 3 vets a 7th d maybe a top 6 d vet if they want maillioux and barron to develop 1 more year.

Maybe sign a top 9 vet like perron or smt for holloway and roy possible reassignment for developent.

Trade armia and ceci at deadline and what ever vets brought in.

I personally wouldnt buyout anyone cuz mtl is rebuilding has the cap and also tends to get injured.

The difference between Campbell and a retained Allen is 1st + Holloway, the difference between Ceci and Savard is more than a 2nd.

Too much quantity and not enough quality for Zegras.

Roy should be in the top 6, Newhook sucks at center and Dach is too injury prone to be relied on as a 2nd line center. IMO Habs should look into bringing in another top 6 center (maybe PLD, Lindell or Zegras)

If I was Calgary acquiring Matheson would be awesome but, probably wouldn't pay that.
I'd probably go with Vancouver's 1st rounder this year plus Dallas' 2nd rounder this year, I've heard next years draft class is better and deeper than this one so keeping those picks would be a priority

Calgary would be moronic to do that for Matheson. He's 30 and worse than both Weegar and Andersson, and they are rebuilding.

Dach injuries are not related, he got hurt on in his hand and now its his knee (first time) he is not injury prone

he really is not... he just plays too many minutes at 26 ATOI.. which he is in the top 10 of minutes for a D. will end the season at around 50p too and really good in transition.
I don'T feel like Calgary would trade for him but he has value

He has some value sure, but lets not pretend that 50% of his production has come from the powerplay. He is without question worse than both Andersson and Weegar. He is pretty much a powerplay specialist as he is a liability defensively. Calgary is one of the last teams that would fork over anything for him

honestly, Defensively he is not that bad, he is not a liability but IMO he is on the PP even with his points, his hckey IQ is not the sharpest and he shots a lot before thinking of passing it.

LOL WTF does Weegar and Andersson being better than Matheson have to do with anything, they aren't getting swapped 1 for 1.
Calgary isn't rebuilding they're retooling team has too many players that let them have a proper rebuild right now, plus both picks would be late in both the 1st and 2nd rounds so not a huge loss
They'd be moronic to not acquire a cost effective top4 Dman for that price
Especially next year when MTL has Calgary's 1st round pick

Matheson is a powerplay specialist, he is pretty subpar at 5v5. He is pretty much the same player as Shayne Gostisbehere or Tony DeAngelo. He isn't worth a 1st by any stretch of the imagination. There are more effective defensemen available for much cheaper. Especially considering all Carolina is asking for is a 5th for TDA with retention.
Montreal has Calgary's top 10 protected 1st lol, and if Calgary's pick is top 10 then they get Florida's 1st, which is almost certainly going to be late. Why would Calgary actively try to give Montreal their own pick? They are no where near contending. I'll take my chances that Vancouver's 1st becomes something instead

Lol comparing Tony D to Mike Matheson. Tell me you don't watch any hockey outside Calgary without telling me. I can pull a hundred clips of Matheson's skating side by side to Tony D's lost coverage. Matheson's skating is elite.

Skating is only useful if you can actually do something with it. Brodin is one of the best skating defensemen in the league, but that's not what makes him elite. What's important is his elite hockey IQ. Matheson has been one of the worst defensemen in the league this year when he isn't on the powerplay. Who cares if you can skate well when you have rocks for brains.

You haven't watched Matheson play if you think he's a PP specialist
Calgary isn't near contending but, they aren't bad enough to fall to the bottom either. Also If Philly can make the playoffs or get close to it while trying to tank, Calgary can make the playoffs next year and give MTL a late pick

How many times do we have to go over this?

Dvorak is a cap dump.

Harris is a LhD, therefore redundant to Anaheim, therefore of little value.

Ylonen is a bottom-6 forward who hasn't proven that he's even NHL material yet, therefore of little value.

And you don't even own those low-value (in comparison to other first- and second-round picks) draft picks you're throwing around.

We repeat for the umpty-umpteenth time: no Slafkovsky, no Reinbacher, no Montreal 2024, no Zegras.

Caufield watch: he now needs only 12 points in 15 games to equal Zegras' offensive production. And he's up to -39 in comparison to Z's -44!

Philly added a 1st line, selke caliber center over the summer for free. Any of those available? Lindholm certainly isn't coming back. Also Calgary without Markstrom was easily a bottom 5 team this year, on top of that most of the teams below them are all on the upswing from rebuilds.

As for Matheson, you are really telling me this is an effective hockey player?

Has he played 1 full season since entering the NHL? No, he has not, infact in 5 years in the NHL, 2021-22 was the closest he came and still managed to miss 6 games (about 2 weeks) the rest of the seasons he had missed upwards of 15+ games. It's always something with him, if that isn't injury prone then we need a new definition for it.

WTF is a season players card? I googled it and the athletic came up first where Matheson was far from the bottom and has Timmins from Toronto as the 6th most positive defenseman in the Atlantic.
Sorry if this isn't a reliable source (sarcasm)

Edmonton declines. They don't need either player. Allen isn't an upgrade on their current tandem and Savard isn't an upgrade on Ceci.
