0% chance ANA takes that. Zegras to MTL has been exhausted here. Slaf, Rein, or the MTL first would be an absolute must or there’s no chance.

Even then, doubtful

I rather have Savard than no back check Zegras and use the extra cap space to sign a 200 foot player like Reinhart/Lindholm

Hanifin fully retained got a 1st, a conditional 3rd, and a roster body. Savard with full freight should not fetch a 1st.

Hanifin is a pending UFA. Savard has one more year at a decent cap hit

Dvorak is a bottom-6 forward and Harris is a redundant LhD. The two picks are what we would ask for Frank Vatrano with retention plus Max Jones.

As a Habs fan, if a high-quality element isn't in the trade, that's not a deal for Zegras. Montreal should make a trade with their 2024 1st round pick with a top 5 protection.

Hanifin wanted to be traded to a team that he will gonna sign a extension, and he have a select list (ex : Tampa, Vegas, etc.).

Savard doesn't want to be traded away, and the Habs aren't open to trade him UNTIL a team that they will deseperate need a RD who can play defense, and that's lead that the team will gonna need to paid that price (best example : the Leafs).

Enjoy him then he's slow, his, first pass is meh, he's not worth what he makes. He's a slightly better version of an overpaid Luke Schenn

$3.5M is not a "decent" cap hit for a guy like Savard. He brings minimal offense to the table, and his possession numbers are fairly negative this year - his CF is 43% at 5v5 despite the fact that he's getting nearly half his even strength starts in the O-zone, compared to last year when he got less than 40% offensive starts.

A 33 year old making $3.5M who'd be third pair on a contender just isn't worth a 1st. I'd argue that being on the hook for his age-34 season at $3.5M is more of a detriment than an asset, honestly.

Habs wont deal their first round pick. Even if its 6-7-8. The player they draft with be on ELC for 3 years whereas Zegras has a 5.7M cap hit for 2 more seasons after this one and his due a for a raise after

He’s the type of defenseman you need in the Playoffs. Ask Tampa, i’m sure they wouldn’t mind having him back and I wouldn’t even be surprised if they try to acquire him before Friday 3pm

I remember somes peoples complaining with somes Monahan mock trades who included a 1st round pick and telling that was unrealistic.

I just hope that you don't make the same mistake as the other ones................

Hanifin only had an 8-team NTC, it's not like Calgary was moving a guy like Tarasenko complete control over his destiny. If Craig Conroy was only negotiating with teams that Hanifin wanted to sign an extension with, well, he shouldn't be an NHL GM then (but that's a different story.)

To put it differently, here are two players:

Player A: 33 years old, former Cup champ, 19:34 TOI/2:55 PK, 3-12-15 in 55 GP, 43.5% CF at 5v5, 42/58 O/D-zone starts
Player B: 33 years old, former Cup champ, 20:33 TOI/3:18 PK, 5-10-15 in 40 GP, 43.2% CF at 5v5, 47/43 O/D-zone starts

Before you say which player you're trading a pick for, I'll tell you that one of these players is signed for an extra year at $2.75M AAV and one is signed through next year at $3.5M. Which one do you think is worth a 1st rounder?

Tampa has $10.6M in cap space available next season with 9 F / 7 D / 2 G under contract already. Do you think they'd really target an 8th D-man, especially one with a $3.5M AAV, when they already have Mikhael Sergachev, Victor Hedman, Erik Cernak, and Nick Perbix under contract? Do you think they'd give up a 1st round pick to pick up a third pair guy that all but guarantees they can't re-sign Steve Stamkos?

There's a wide gulf between a 29 year old rental C scoring at a 55-60 point pace at a sub-$2M cap hit and a 33 year old third pair D making $3.5M and putting up poor possession numbers.

Context is lost on most here. Heard the same nonsense with Monahan. “Habs got a 1st to take on cap dump Monahan, not worth close to a 1st”

From another poster whom broke down the Hanifin deal pretty well..

“If you take away:

1. Teams that didn't want him (NY, NSH, CAR, COL, PHI, DAL)
2. Teams without a 2024 1st (TB, FLO, VAN, EDM)
3. Teams keeping it, maybe for another deal (BOS, DET, LA)
4. Teams Hanifin didn't want to resign (TOR, WPG)

I guess only Vegas was left.”

none of these conditions apply to Savard
