Trades for Jake

Description
These are fair offers for likely the best player to be traded at the deadline in 20 years.

I prefer Vancouver the most so I made their trade "canon"

I would also trade Smith for a 2nd / B+ prospect

If you think these trades are too much, please let me know the players who were traded at the deadline who were better than Guentzel. That said, if you don't think your team should trade for Guentzel, I can totally get that.

Vancouver's deal is clearly the best for the Pens. I don't think we will be getting Lekkerimaki for a rental Jake though. Hope I'm wrong.

Carolina was in on EP40, they are clearly looking to do something. Wonder if they would make an aggressive offer for Jake?

Maybe Trotz in Nashville. He seems to be an aggressive GM, always wanting to add offense.

Pittsburgh wants two quality prospects. Edmonton does not have those and Vancouver is probably not ready to give up theirs. You're going to have find a better trade partner or do like Arizona had to do with Chychrun last year and get far less than you want

that isn't nearly enough for the penguins to take on that horrible Mikheyev contract. I'm not touching that for a 2nd. VAN doesn't really have the pieces to move it out as it would take a 1st for a team to take that on. The only way I make that trade is if you get a trade like the VAN one above and it needs to be made to make it work.

EDM doesn't have the pieces for a penguins trade. This has been stated multiple times. They are most likely on the bottom of the list of all trades.

The trade with VGK isn't enough to get it done. VGK has better pieces to move.

People keep saying things like VAN won't give that up........ but VAN isn't the only team interested in Guentzel.
The bad part of that for VAN is there are at least 4 other teams in the west interested. EDM, VGK, DAL, COL.

Now you can say EDM doesn't have the pieces. But DAL sure does and so does VGK.

Then you got 4 teams in the east in CAR, FL, NYR, and TOR.
You can say maybe TOR can't afford to keep Jake, but they actually could shedding Domi and Bertuzzi next year. Others say they want to invest in defense but I don't see it as they won't want a defense rental and it's better to solve that long term in FA where they have 8 defensive contracts coming off the book next year.

That's a lot of teams interested in Jake, most have the pieces to get it done. So VAN wanting to low ball it, isn't going to happen.

The penguins will get a good return on the trade. Given sellers always lose in the end because no matter how good the trade is usually prospects and late round picks have to develop into the sure thing they are moving out. But sometimes like OTT EK trade, the seller wins.

Don't think the Canucks would be willing to do that. Hoglander has been great this year, and will be expected to step up into a more prominent role next year. Getting a potential top 6 forward on a bargain $1M contract will be a major asset for a cap strapped team in Vancouver. Lekkerimaki is also untouchable, only possible situation I can see the Canucks trading him is in a deal for a under 25 top pairing right-handed defenceman with term.

So I will say this about Van that makes me think they would be in:
1.) This year they are on pace to get 30 more points than last year. If this this is lightning in a bottle, run with that. If this year is a turning point for them, they don't need to hit on all of their prospects to maintain.
2.) Hoglander is a nice piece but they don't have the space to overpay a middle 6 guy who (maybe) becomes a top 6 guy.
3.) Lekkerimaki is still in Europe. He looks great but it's a large gamble.
4.) Mikheyev is worth a negative 3rd, Raty is worth a 1st. The Pens could take both and lose a 2nd as a part of the Guentzel trade to sweeten the pot a bit for Van.
5.) With losing Raty and Lekkerimaki, Vancouver still has 3 top 100 prospects and great young players.

I think they make great partners.
