Description
A 3rd and a 6th for retention for depth is fair. And lybushkin brings an element we can use.

It's just that he's a 16-17 minute a night defenseman who really hasnt been particularly good of late. And now we're going to try to make him work as a first pairing at evens defenseman

Sigh...

In general I dont mind the move

Gio, Timmins, and Liligren are hurt and we were forced to play Marner on the backend lul

The double ret though has me curious as to why. I think were in for another move question is what

I don’t mind it he played well with Reilly last time and we’ve seen how good Benoit has been after leaving the ducks. Double retention is nice too leaves room for more moves

A 3rd and a 6th, not worth getting too worked up about. The double retention does hint at another move coming though 👀

lyubushkin is worth a 4th, and a 6th to retain less than a million for a fourth of a season is genuinely bad business.

i don't believe this is the only deal toronto is going to make this coming week but my god this is a horrible sign of things to come.

Chill out, everyone’s a hero suddenly; like the difference between a 3rd & 4th is worth getting g worked up over. Let’s see what else is coming … I (like most fans) couldn’t even tell you who the Leafs have drafted recently with their 3rd or 4th or 6th picks 🤦🏻

If you know who Topi Niemela is, you know a player the Leafs drafted with a 3rd.

And before that it was Mikko Kokonnen, SDA, or Riley Stotts. I’m not too worried but to each his own

True but also lost out on Faber with the 2nd

Drafting can be hit and miss we have seen 3rd round guys fizzle and become nobodies

Guess you're not like most fans since you know who the Leafs drafted in the latter rounds. Sorry you accidentally had to educate yourself.

You're missing the point of why this isn't a good trade - a 3rd for a roster player is completely fine and happens all time, because by the 3rd round the draft is more or less a lottery and teams are picking off their internal lists and scouting rather than some projected tiered chart. The problem with this trade is that Lyubushkin is barely a 7th D on Toronto - everyone who played tonight besides Lagesson should be slotted in ahead of him, and Timmins is arguely a more useful player than he is. A player whose worth a 4th at best is not worth retaining on twice, Toronto essentially gave up two assets which might be useful for someone who doesn't push anyone else out of the lineup. The Leafs could've absolutely gotten a better player for a similar return.
