Description
To BOS: Mario Ferraro (SJS), 3rd Rd Pick '25 (EDM), Ozzy Weisblatt (SJS)

To EDM: Jake DeBrusk (BOS), Ian Mitchell (BOS)

To SJS: 1st Round Pick '24 (EDM), Warren Foegle (EDM), Frederic Brunet (BOS), 2.0M retention on DeBrusk

This sucks for the top 6, but that can be figured out later, or maybe Duclair can come back to Boston. I love doing the math on these things, don't take it too seriously. Also, whats up with Josh Bailey? He available? Always thought he was good but overpayed.

So the sharks give up Ferraro and Ozzy for a first, a cap dump, our last retention slot, and prospect who would be our 5th best left d prospect (Behind Thrun, Mukhamadulin, Okhotiuk, and Furlong). Pass

Foegle doesn't seem like a cap dump to me, the retention slot is for a year, and sub literally any forward prospect you want, I just picked a guy who isn't gonna crack your lineup probably ever.

Maybe he isnt a cap dump but the sharks a giving up ferarro who they want a first for alone and eating almost 5 million in salary that does squat for them and giving up a random prospect, there is just very little incentive for us to be a part of this deal when it is more beneficial to keep Ferraro or trade him for a first on his own and use the retention slot for another asset.

I’d rather have DeBrusk. I don’t see the need to trade him when we have the second best record in the league. Ferraro wouldn’t be my primary target on defense if we acquired a first round pick

Fair point, though I don't think the Sharks have the cap space to eat any contracts of real value unless they're moving someone else on top of it. DeBrusk is cheap already so it worked out.

I think the Bs are scared of all the blown leads so they're going to prioritize defense. Ferraro is cheap, signed for term, can play PP and PK, and eats minutes and hits. Not a true #1 but would definitely help the team.
And I'm just worried that DeBrusk is going to walk. I know he's said he wants to be here long term but I doubt Sweeney will pay him market value, and other teams certainly will.

I mean retaining on our own players for extra assets. Would even retain on duclair for a third and sell Mario for a first and take a bad 1-2 year contract back

Ferraro is a good player who isn’t someone I’d target with our limited asset base.

I’d rather just stick with DeBrusk and if we can sign him, great. If not, there should be a viable replacement in free agency.

Foegele is outscoring DeBrusk significantly at 5v5 this season, making even a straight trade of no interest to Edmonton. Then you add a 1st + 3rd... it's laughable.

No.

Swap out Foegele for Ceci (dependent on if we can land Carrier) remove Mitchell and EDM can add a prospect going to SJS.
Something like:
EDM In: Debrusk 50% Out: 1st 3rd Ceci and C+/B- Prospect.
BOS In: Ferraro and 3rd Out: Debrusk and Brunet.
SJS In: 1st, Ceci, C-/B+ Prospect, Brunet Out: Ferraro, 50% retention on Debrusk.

Would be nice too if Debrusk says he would resign with EDM.

Sharks actually have plenty of cap space. Matt Benning is done for the season, they just haven't LTIR'd him because there's no benefit to doing so until they're going to use the space, so that's 1.25M freed up. In addition to that, there's a strong chance that one or both of Herlt* and Couture are done for the season and can be LTIR'd to take on bad expiring deal(s) from elsewhere.

* Herlt is the Fanatics spelling of Hertl from a jersey I saw someone wearing earlier this year, my friends and I have been spelling it that way since.

I think you'd have a hard time marketing Ceci as a good add for SJS but I like the plan. A+ comment effort though.

Yea he may be a hard sell to SJS cause of cap but he would do fine on their second pair above Rutta and Burroughs (definitely isn't a need for them though), tossed in the prospect to maybe help out.
Only reason I tossed him out is cause it's unlikely EDM moves Foegele unless we get a substantial upgrade on him.

I’m pretty comfortable that DeBrusk gets more on the open market vs Foegele. His shot percentage is well below average, but he is a complete player. Foegele isn’t a sieve like Kane, but he’s not as good a 200 foot player as DeBrusk

I don’t know why we are even discussing this. Boston is 2nd in points and DeBrusk scoring at his traditional clip is the best path to then succeeding considering their lack of assets to make a move at the deadline
