This makes loads of sense to me. NJ has the cap space. It a low pick for a guy who is sometimes lights out and other times an AHL caliber goalie. They are 7 points out of the playoffs, it's a Hail Mary for a guy they picked in the 5th round who has some upside but is far from a sure thing and a 5th.

Worst case they lose a mid tier prospect and mid pick.

Best case, they get a top 10 goalie who steals them some games and they fight back into the playoffs.

Either way Sammy is a UFA at the end of the year and they can then focus on getting Markstrom if that is their guy.

Flyers aren't deep at RD it's definitely a need and Lili can step in and play on the right side. Long-term he could be a mainstay there as a #3/4. Robertson is apparently someone Briere has been really high on and he'd fit into the Flyers pretty well he isn't big but he's a high energy guy that plays with the same commitment the Flyers do.

Frost is more defensively reliable than Domi so on a line with Bert and Nylander he can be the defensive conscious.

Assuming that Edmonton wants an upgrade Leafs can help facilitate the cap impact.
