Only issue is you'd then have to let Marchy walk looking at space for following year.

Thought Vancouver would prefer Geekie/Lohrei due to age, RFA status, and low cap hit. Both showing a lot of potential... but probably wouldn't have an issue with keeping those and swapping for Zacha/Carlo.

What would your Pettersson package look like?

Disagree - I think this would be a very competitive offer. 4 roster players who will all be under team control for the foreseeable future. A roster player (Geekie - RFA top-9 player on a good contract), two highly regarded prospects with high ceilings who are locks for an NHL lineup immediately (Lohrei, Poitras), another good prospect who should be playing NHL minutes (Merkulov), and a mid-1st round pick this year.

if van were to trade him, van would not want 3rd liners and prospect that wont be ready for 3-4 years.

and BOS prospects are of lower quality than many other teams that would be after EP40 could offer.

Not sure what you're talking about. Poitras, Lohrei, and Merkulov are all high quality prospects. Poitras is a top-6 center, Lohrei is a top-4 D, and Merk is top 3 in AHL scoring as a 23 year old. All are ready to play in the NHL today.

Which teams would provide better prospects than Poitras/Lohrei in a deal for EP40?

for one no ones knows how their prospect will turn out, so saying those are top 6, top 4 is just conjecture, OTT fans though JBD was going to be top 4, he is 3rd pairing.

VAN ain't rebuilding, if there is no top 6 player in the deal they refuse without hesitation.

and they are not top prospect according to most analysts, of the top 50-100 NHL affiliated prospects dating back from 2023 and 2024, Poitras, Lohrei, and Merkulov dont even make the top 50 or top 100, the ONLY Boston prospect that makes any of the lists, and he is at the bottom of it is Lysell.

Poitras has played 33 games. Yes, he made the team as 19yo and if he were to become a top6 C, this is a great start but it's not a guarantee either. Lohrei has struggled in a top4 role. Merkulov has crushed the AHL and should get a real shot although he could also be anything.

I mean Lohrei has played half the NHL games JBD has and already has similar if not better production offensively and is a much better prospect IMO.

Prospect rankings seem to be largely based on draft position - Lohrei, Poitras, and Merk have produced better than most. Poitras especially being a late bloomer during the COVID years - his last junior season was compared to Marner and he made an NHL roster as a 19 year old and produced early on. He is only going to get better.

Pretty confident in Poitras' development - already has very good IQ, vision, and passing ability. Not many weak areas of his game. Add some size and he'll be a force.

Lohrei has struggled with miscues in his own end but I think that's a confidence issue from Monty managing minutes. Every game he gets 20+ minutes he has been a huge plus to the team (see: 3 point night 23min TOI vs EDM). Give him some leash to develop and he is going to be very good. He is better than what Forbort and Gryz are giving you most nights.

Merk and Lysell have both been crushing the AHL. Both deserve a legit look in the top 9 at the NHL. Beecher also deserves to be back at 4C - line has lost a lot of its identity without him IMO

Pasta/McAvoy are untouchable - both probably hold more value than EP40 because of their contract term.

Which is why a deal with Boston wouldn’t work. They don’t have the assets otherwise

That’s just simply not true. I’d agree Mcavoy has the same value as Petey maybe slightly higher because RHD are the most valuable position in hockey, but if Vancouver called Boston and offered Petey for Pasta Boston would take that before the Canucks could hang up the phone.

Yes, McAvoy > EP40

And personally, I would take Pasta who is guaranteed for 45-65 goals every year over Pettersson too.
