Ullmark would fetch a 1st and not much else, so NJD declines
Probably have to up the package for Hanifin a little bit, but add another prospect of 2nd, and its good
Griz probably fetches a mid round pick at best, and it wont be to Bruce Cassidys golden knights
I’m kind of curious what Calgary’s and NJD’s thoughts on Holtz is compared to the first round and third round pick. Id value Holtz over those personally, but I’m not sure where either is there. There is something to say for more service time, but I just view that jump from Junior to AHL/NHL as so big that if a prospect shows competence there: he has more credit in my book,
To NJD: Ullmark and Forbort
To Bos: Hanifin and Vanacek ($1 m retained)
To Calgary: Holtz or 2024 NJD 1st/3rd, 2026 Boston 2nd, any prospect not in Boston’s top 3 (no Lohrei, Poitras, Lysell)
I could see Calgary having an interest in Grzelcyk for Vladar swap instead of giving Forbort to NJD for Vanacek. It buys a few youngsters more time and Grz might covet contractual stability / opportunity at this stage. Plus, I think Vladar is a negative contract and that might have value for Calgary
Is Poirier ready to be a top 4 D once he’s healthy or should he develop as a 3rd line guy who can beat out Grz? Plus, I think Wolf and Markstrom is an ideal pairing. Its better to ease a young goaltender in as part of a duo rather than just make him the unconditional number 1
