Instant no from COL for a whole number of reasons the most obvious being COL needs a center and doesn’t need wings.

The value is fair for Eller. While I’m sure we’d likely rather move him out of the division, I could see PIT doing this if we get back a half decent center in a Guentzel trade.

Taking on the huberdeau contract would destroy our window. Even with that retention they’d need to add multiple 1sts

Lazar for seller would be dumb, let alone adding a 2nd. Lazar has been excellent this year

I disagree. While I don't think CGY should/would retain on Huberdeau, I think this would be a smart trade for both teams. Huberdeau is an excellent player who's just on a team he doesn't fit on. Being on NJ would be more simliar to playing on FLA since he'd be nest to the likes of Hischier or Hughes. I also think Meier fits the mold of CGY more than NJ.

I'd make this trade. The Pens would likely let Tierney walk which is fine. but I think Lazar would be a perfect 4C(next year) which would let Acciari move back to wing where he's stronger.

Not taking on a guy who’s been much worse the last 2 years outside of a stretch meier was blatantly playing through injury that significantly impacted his skating speed.

Especially when said player is 3 years older.

Ottawa never finished third in the league. Ottawa also doesn’t have any players on the level of Hischer or Hughes. Only guy that’s close is Stutzle.

Yeah it was. His skating speed also suddenly magically dropped by 20% after he returned from an injury that held him out and he was more hesitant to throw the body around for a while.

I agree with that logic, but we’d have to have a center that can at least play 3C for the remainder of the year coming in some how. Carter at 3C for the rest of this year would be a sure fire way to enrage us all and Sid lmao. I think that can easily be done in a Guentzel trade though.

Lazar could fill in the rest of the season at 3C. Clearly if the Pens wind up moving everyone the expectations are to miss the playoffs. Next year the Pens could possibly target someone like Monahan.

Nobody has a crystal ball, but I think stylistically he'd be a much better fit for CGY than NJ.

It hasn't. He has what I call Roger Clemmens Syndrome. Take the money and run. Get lazy. and then ask for a trade.

We’ve moulded our game to fit more with Huberdeau style over the past year and a bit, so I’m not sure about that. I don’t know if it really makes any large difference swapping Huberdeau for Meier.

I think that's a very weird stretch. Meier had been playing on a bottom-feeder team that's been going through the motions. He likely wants a true shot at the cup and NJ was/is a good choice for that. I just don't think he fits that team.

Let me amend what I was meaning to say. It's not just the style, but the player types. Look at who he had success with win FLA and looks who he's played with in CGY. He clearly needs to be surrounded by different type of players. Players don't just fall off the Earth like that after years of consistent play. Not at his age. That decline doesn't hit for another few years.

I see what you mean, but I don’t think the trade would move the needle for either teams. Both would remain in the middle of the league, barely missing the playoffs.

I suppose, but Lazar at 3C isn’t giving your team a fighters chance. I doubt Dubas would want to send the message that the team is completely banking on missing and leaning into it. Sid wouldn’t be happy with that, and rightfully so.

There’s wisely selling out of necessity and still icing a relatively competitive product so that your guys who have worked hard all year still have SOME chance of making the dance, and then there’s tanking and showing that you have no hope in your guys’ abilities.

I’m sure Dubas would opt for the former given how close we are and the vets on this team.

Getting someone half decent to play 3C until the end of the year wouldn’t be hard, especially if Guentzel is moved, so if we can do that then I’d definitely be willing to move Eller. Just my thoughts, we shall see. It’ll be an interesting deadline to say the least, man.

If the Pens are sellers, the expectations of missing the playoffs have been set. Everything else is a hail mary at that point.
