Especially now that Brodie + Lily are turning into a nice pair and Benoit + McCabe is turning into a nice pair. I can see the Leafs spending the 1st on Tanev. BUT like I did here, they get a 3rd round pick back (which is not nothing) and they get a reasonable extension. This is the only way I would do this. Rielly + Tanev would be a nice pair.

If he’s playing over 20minutes then he’s a legitimate top 4D. Those guys are at-least 4m. Problem is like you said, he’s 34, has a ton of miles on him, how long can he keep playing >20min? Cuz if he ends up on the third pair then anything over 3m is an overpay. As this is his last chance to secure his bag, he could be looking for 4 years. It was the same scenario with the aging oreilly.

4 years 3.5m do you take it? Personally no. Not sure if you see the upright stiffness in his body positioning that I see (with oreilly too) but id say thats a good sign he’s losing mobility. Id much rather give him 2x4.5. Even that could be risky. So although I agree with you 2x3.5 could be his fair value, based on what oreilly and schenn got I wouldnt count on it. He’d be taking a discount

I like Tanev. Bogo has been misperceived as some gritty DFD when in reality he's not - and he doesn't make our top 6 either. Maroon is physical but he sucks at hockey. I want physical, gritty players who contribute to the game either defensively or offensively as well. Maroon does neither, he's another Ryan Reaves.
