Guentzel is about it for rentals to add value. Its unlikely Pitts retains on anyone with term.

We need a RH FO depth guy. J Williams knows Carter well. Tieksola is of little consequence so it isnt a much of a loss or gain for either team.

I'd take this deal in a second but unfortunately Carter won't go for it

idk. Again Carter knows Williams in their time in LA who is a consultant for Donnie W and Carolina has a better chance at the playoffs and cup. but maybe you are right.

That’s wrong. Ned can fetch a late 2nd at 50% retained. Undoubtedly at least a 3rd. Also, we could retain for another team in exchange for a more valuable asset that what you’ve offered, depending on our cap space if Guentzel were dealt. Not to mention that Carter has to agree to waive his NMC to begin with.

idk, i dont thnk teams are going to be going too hard after ned due to his size. i dont think carter would have an issue waiving for Carolina. Carter isnt a must have, so if this is a sticking point, Ill move on to another RH FO guy.

If the Hawks are willing to move Murphy I think this proposal gets Chicago’s attention however, I don’t see it as an overpay which will probably be required to get Davidson to pull the trigger.

THIS. Murph is valuable to the Hawks beyond his play; he also provides structure and guidance to the kids coming in during the early years of the rebuild... The Hawks can't simply throw newbies into the NHL without enough structure; could do much harm to the development of highly drafted, talented youngsters.

So... I agree that only an overpay - and perhaps a big one - will be what it takes to pry Murph away.

Connor Murphy makes plenty of sense in the medium-term. I'm sure that he would love to waive to a top contender. Jeff Carter is...a bad idea. If you're going to acquire a vegetable to sit on the bench, get a guy who hasn't won the Cup yet. Someone like Okposo, for example.

Carter only makes sense for RH FO depth since its unlikely Pono would be our number 1 option there

This would be immensely disappointing which is why i think its one of the most realistic deadline scenarios for this team.

Without retention, not less than a 1st. If the pick is a 2nd, then the prospect needs to be a lot closer to a "can't miss" guy than Heinosalmi. He's a smaller guy, which Hawks are moving away from on their blue line, and he seems to be having his struggles playing in his own end. He strikes me as Ian Mitchell 2.0.

Murphy is declining and didn't look very good last year and this year has been even worse. There is not a team that is going to offer a 1st without retention. Two years ago that was very realistic, last year maybe assuming he just had a down year, but this year not at all with an even worse year. Without retention he's worth a 2nd rounder at best, so a 2nd with a decent prospect is a very good offer that the Hawks would be silly to not seriously consider.

According to The Athletic, who just did player cards and rankings for all players, Murphy's market value is $800k. Compared to other d-men, he's in the 15% for offense, 11% defense, goals against 11%, blocks 96%, PK 62%. In other words, his 5 on 5 play is not very good with the exception of blocks and his PK is better than average....other than that he's not been good this season and was showing a fair amount of decline last season. The eye test backs this up as well.

I'm a huge murphy fan (was), but it's time to face reality that he's declining fast, battles injuries, and besides being a mentor for the youth is not anywhere worth his cap hit.

The Hawks were in full tank mode last season. How can you possibly base any evaluation of Murphy on last season? Murphy played last season with a revolving door of bums who were barely NHL level players. Pretty hard to put up good numbers when you aren't playing with a consistent partner and the guys you are playing with stink. This year, Murphy has mostly been paired with Korchinski. 19 y.o. rookie who is obviously not NHL ready from the defensive side of the game. Just look at Seth. His analytics last season were pretty bad as well. This season, with Vlasic as a solid, consistent partner, Jones is playing so much better. No doubt Murphy has injury issues, but I don't agree at all on your "eye test" statement. He's still a solid 2nd pair guy. If you trade him away, you have no one internally to replace him with. So the Hawks need to make another deal to replace him or overpay for a guy in free agency. For that reason alone, I'm not trading Murphy for anything less than a 1st or a 2nd and a really good prospect. There's nothing wrong with keeping him for two more years until Rinzell is ready if you don't get good value back for him. What does Kyle from Chicago always say? You value the player more than the trade return. Murphy is a prime example of this.

Actually, Seth had a pretty good season last season and this year his numbers are slightly down this year; at least advanced analytics. Check out both their player cards on The athletic.

That said, Murphy is a solid #4 (not exactly a #3 anymore) on a playoff contending team, I won't argue that, but the eye test shows, even when accounting for his linemates, he is not as quick on the skates and making some questionable decision especially on zone exits. Simply put, in a trade, he's not worth his cap hit. I don't think the Hawks will trade him this season or offseason for the reasons you mention, but next TDL they need to start considering it seriously. If the Hawks got an offer for a 1st, they should do it all day long right now.
