This trade does not happen without one of knies and or Robertson
Tverberg a 7th round pick isn't going to cut it

I would say Niemela has higher value than Robertson. Niemela is a very good RD prospect. He was dman of the tourny at the world juniors a few years back. He is having an amazing year in the AHL right now and he is still only 21. Solid B+ prospect.

Tverberg was a 7th rounder, but his stock has risen fast since then. Still not crazy valuable, but probably 3rd round pick or so right now. Looking like he could be a very good bottom 6 forward. MAYBE a middle 6 guy.

There is still quite a bit of value in this trade.

I don't think that even comes close. Niemela is a decent prospect, but he doesn't get you Tanev alone. Scott Wheeler just ranked tverberg as torontos 9th best prospect, on the team with the 5th worst prospect pool.

Niemela+3rd for Tanev
1st+3rd for Hanifin
Timmins, Tverberg for retention

Not sure what CGY would think about the three prospects, but seems legit valuewise.

Considering they wanted Kuzmenko back in Lindholm deal and Sharangovich back in Toffoli deal…and Friedman did say they want players back…My only suggestion would be to change Tverberg / Niemela to guys with little experience (Liljegren maybe if they are extending Tanev).

Many insiders have stated that Calgary wants a 1st round pick for Tanev. Which is what prevented Vancouver from adding Tanev in the Lindholm trade.
If they can't get a 1st, then they want a 2nd. Toronto has no 2nd, probably does not want to trade a 1st. Thus only way a Niemela and a 3rd for Tanev works is if many of teams decides to not bother trading for Tanev. Interested parties are still Vancouver, Toronto, Boston, Dallas, New Jersey, New yorks, etc...

Some said they wanted a 1st for Zadorov too. And some said they wanted more for Toffoli too. Look back to any rumored asking price…the ask is often higher than the successful bid.

Most insiders have said they felt, Calgary got a little less for Toffoli and still feel, if Calgary played their cards right could have gotten more. Most insider have stated that for Zadorov, the 1 St round pick is mostly fan fare as he is at best a 5th defender. The reason the deal was lower was no retained salary which Calgary is keeping because they are hoping to mortgage their max 3 retention slots for draft picks at the deadline.

So there is at least one 2nd round pick missing from the above trade, as Calgary despite the valuation of prospects will want a minimum 2nd for both defenders, most likely a first for Hanifin especially in a sellers market.

What comps would you use for Hanifin and Tanev?

If Horvat trade was an influence on Lindholm return, one could assume Conroy sells for market rate.

Hanifin - Hampus Lindholm return (minus the cap dump and retention)…would be around 1st+Vaak. Add in $7m+ absorbed by Ducks and and that accounts for the two other picks. Vaak was no more than 3rd at time, so 1st+3rd.

Tanev - maybe close to Dillon deadline deal a few years ago…got 2nd + 3rd with retention.
