there is no way Gourde is returning a 1st.
He's a cap dump.

If they trade Eberly and they don't play Wright next season, they should package him with a 1st to PIT for Guentzel

Why would they move wright for a rental?
Wright has been starting to play very well in the AHL and the potential of beniers and wright solidifying their top 6 centers for the next 15 years is to hard to give up on

A it wouldn't be a rental if they traded for him they would be resigning him.

B. I don't think they are that high up on Wright. He was passed over this year, I'm surprised he didn't ask for a trade. They brought in an aging slowed down Tatar instead of giving him a roster spot.
Spare me the development age ..... they played Matty even younger. They just don't trust him is all there was to that situation. Why else would they find 20 games for 1 goal Andre B but not give Wright a legit chance. That just doesn't make sense for a team on the bubble of getting into the playoffs that needs help. Not unless your coach and GM don't want to win.

So I wouldn't go to hard on the Top 6 centers for next 15 years. If they had faith in him he'd be there now. I have a feeling he's going to end up asking out if they keep passing over him. They are costing him money and what they are playing over him frankly isn't that good. He should already be playing above at least 3 players there in Tatar, Yanni, and Andre B. You can even make the argument Kartye jumped him.

So because Matty Beniers was playing well in the NHL at age 19, the new rule of thumb is that if a guy doesn't crack the NHL roster by age 19 then the team needs cut bait on the player? Good god, man, get a grip!

Also, why wouldn't you play your developing 20 year old on the NHL team? You might be right that they don't trust him, but he is developing. You don't develop as fast when you are constantly getting benched in close games and averaging 7 minutes TOI a night. You develop when you are building your confidence by regularly getting points while playing 15+ minutes a night. And if he wants to make more money, then he needs to make sure he is doing everything he can to earn his spot.

Like I said, you might be right that they might not be high on him. But cutting bait on a #4 overall pick when he is only 20 years old is a more fireable offense for a GM than making a bad pick in a draft year that was particularly crapshoot-y. There is no rush to trade a young guy on an ELC.

I will be disappointed if the Bruins pick up Tatar for a 4th. He is more of a 7th round pick/waivers guy for the Bruins due to the lackluster playoff performances he has had even in his best years and the Bruins existing solid middle 6 depth.

look at you thinking a guy who was given exceptional player status needs "confidence" egg shell walking.
Or to think he should be played 7 minutes a night and is going to get constantly benched.

This is all part of the issue, and like I said, why I think he's going to ask out at this rate.

If anything, sitting him rotting in the AHL is probably more detrimental for his confidence than playing him. Especially when the choices of people you are passing by him are very poor and your giving opportunity to others who frankly were no more or less prepared than he is. If you somehow think Matty B was leaps and bounds ahead of Wright to "earn" his place you are mistaken. What Matty had was leverage. Play me or I go back to Michigan and in 2 years walk. Wright didn't have that leverage so they shoved him in the AHL. They aren't giving him the same opportunity period.

Which brings me back to the whole not high on him. You think it's "cutting bait" on a guy but when you aren't high on him that's not how they see it.
It's not cutting bait on a guy when you get a 40 goal 1st line winger in return. You are hoping Wright develops into that level of player. Not the other way around.

In general the trend in the NHL is to play the younger talent. Benson in BUF playing first year, he was the 13th overall in the last draft.
Younger players are getting more and more opportunity.
Of the top 7 players in Wright's draft. That's 3 up and 3 down from him.
2 are not in the NHL right now. Wright and Gauthier, who is not signed and in the NCAA. Which isn't a good sign for ANA but that's a different story.

You went on a hell bent rage but anyone looking at the context can see something here is off. He should be getting his chance. He's not. That says both A. the organization is not high on him, and B. the player at some point is going to be more frustrated in the AHL than in the NHL developing.

So instead of making his 900k a year, he's making 82k a year. I'm sure that's not really making him happy and everyone else around him got opportunity but him.
Instead some pretty low performing players are getting his ice time.

At some point that comes to a head. If they don't have faith in him, moving him isn't an issue.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to go on a hell bent rage. I do think your arguments might be a bit hyperbolic though. If you want to trade Wright for Guentzel and hope you can re-sign him, you are entitled to your opinion. If Shane Wright is a top 6 C by age 22 and Seattle doesn't come close to sniffing a cup with Guentzel, the GM who pulled the trigger on that trade is definitely on the hot seat. GMs are risk averse, so I just don't see it happening. Wright doesn't have the ability to shoot his way out of town, so to speak, until his RFA status is up, and that is very far away from now.

Every player can get out of town if they want to. That's been proven over and over again.
All I know is he's making 82k a year right now not 900 + a shot at a 3 mil bonus, while almost every player drafted around him is at the NHL level except one that appears to not want to sign.
It's not a matter of confidence, it's a matter of if the organization thinks he's capable.
The moves they are making suggest otherwise.
That's not to say he can't be. But as a player you need people to believe in you and put you on the ice.
Holding him back is doing nothing for either the player or the organization.
As much as you say GM are risk adverse, if Wright turns out to not be what people want him to be, then you look just as bad drafting him.
All I know is it's harder to be a 40 goal scorer in this game than people think. Acquiring one for a guy they may not have faith in isn't a bad trade. If the player is going to remain in the AHL next year, he should be asking out, because they are holding him back and not giving him fair opportunity compared to other younger players.

Why would Dallas have any interest in that trade. Their forwards are set.
