Sujet: Hypothetical Expansion Draft if it were this year
I tried to guess who each team would protect and conduct an expansion draft based on the Seattle and Vegas rules. How would you feel about this team.

Line 1 - LW Anthony Duclair (Tampa), C Mikael Backlund (Calgary), RW Conor Garland (Vancouver)
Line 2 - LW Tyler Bertuzzi (Toronto), C Lars Eller (Pittsburgh), RW Kevin Labanc (San Jose)

That roster leaves about 8.6 Million in Cap Space assuming the cap climbs to 87.5, so a bit of flexibility would exist as well.

How do you think this team would do? I think they might struggle to score goals, but they would have a really good defense and probably top 10 goaltending which could allow them to steal some games. I'd think this team could probably get somewhere around 82 points in year 1 which is better than we've seen for quite some time, and they'd have cap space to go out and sign a top end free agent, and could probably flip some players for draft picks as they look to build up the pipeline as well.

This obviously won't be the team they get if they come back, but I think it's a good taste of the kind of team we could expect to see in 5 years.

Sujet: A realistic Daccord Trade
Plenty teams want Daccord. Seattle doesn't have any goalie prospects, so they need a goalie in return if they trade Daccord. Any team that wants Daccord doesn't have that to offer so you need to involve a 3rd team. Calgary has 3 NHL ready goaltenders. Seattle given they aren't in their window would want Wolf of Calgary's 3. Calgary needs to replace some of the veteran talent they lost and would probably like to replace it with a good young NHL prospect with a big upside. Toronto which is D deficient would need to look at giving up a Forward. Matthew Knies had a really good season for a 21 year old and shows a lot of promise. I'm sure Toronto doesn't want to part with him, but he's the kind of player Calgary would want in order to give up a goalie, although I'm sure they'd rather trade Markstrom or Vladar.

Overall I like that you recognized Seattle's greatest need for a top end scoring talent. I agree on Beniers likely getting a bridge deal after a disappointing sophomore season, but I think it's probably north of 4 million. Tolvanen may be a bit rich, so perhaps those offset. The one thing I disagree with is acquiring Brady Skei. Seattle needs to find a right shot D. Their prospect pool is weak there, and even if one of their prospects develops, they're at least a couple years away from having a prospect ready at the NHL level, where as they have strength on the left side and have a couple decent prospects as well. The other thing I question is whether Seattle moves Gourde. I think Gourde is great, but would be a very expensive 4C. If they can get some value for Gourde, I think it may be worth trading him and signing a cheaper 4C which could give them more flexibility.

Sujet: Lets be realistic
I don't see Seattle making any crazy big trades for big names. They're not 1 big name away from being a stanley cup contender, so development and patience is the game they need to be playing, but they are also close enough that with the right moves they could be back in the playoffs. First off is that they need another top 6 center. Wright isn't ready for that, and he may only ever be a really good 3C or lower tier 2C. If he develops down the road. If Seattle can entice Lindholm to sign with them that's a splashy move they should make. They have the cap space to make that happen, but we'll see if he wants to stay on the west coast or go east. If they sign Lindholm, that probably makes Gourde expendable since I think Wright will probably be 3C next year. Gourde would be an expensive 4C, and so they can pick up some draft capital and sign a solid 4C for a lower price. There's a number of candidates, but It would be cool to see Gourde go back to Quebec where he lives in the off season and maybe even finish his career there. I think Montreal could benefit from him. Seattle needs to find a 3rd pairing Right Dman.

Tyson Barrie is damaged goods right now, so he can probably be had for cheap, and there could be some upside. a 1 year contract is pretty low risk, so could be worth signing someone like that, who could have a bounce back year and be a steal.

Other notable signings are Tolvanen, which I'm sure Seattle will keep, but will be interesting to see what that contract looks like, and while I was thinking Beniers would get the 8 year deal, he just hasn't performed this year to warrant an 8 year investment even though that's probably the most cap advantaged thing to do long term. I think he gets a 3 year bridge deal that will give the team 1 more year of RFA control to see if he can earn the 8 year contract in 3 years.

As far as the last 2 forwards, Seattle could sign a league min person, but I suspect that Seattle will try and rotate in some of the young kids throughout the season to get them some experience, and I suspect at least 1 of them will really catch on and stay up. I picked Nyman, because he's had a pretty solid year in Finland this year, so it'd be great to see him come over to North America and see what he can do over here next year.
