          why trade toff?

To acquire the extra first round pick to flip to CGY to acquire Hanifin at the ‘24 TDL. This gives us our own 1st to give to BOS or NSH for Ullmark or Saros

The NJD pick is a good asset, the Bruins probably accept. Stillman addresses a weak RW prospect pool beyond Lysell, and Schmid competing with Bussi for backup duties is nice but I forsee us flipping him in that case.

If this is in the offseason, I think the Bruins would probably accept this assuming they don't get a better offer. The Bruins probably don't accept this in-season this year though. I only mention that because you threw in that Toffoli trade, which makes me think you see some of these happening by the TDL this season.

I dont think the Sharks have any kind of interest in taking on Vanacek (even with 900k retained) for free

If the Devils add a goalie, it’s expected Vanacek would be in return (per Pagnotta the other day)

Good chance that both Kähkönen and Blackwood are gone next year. What do the Sharks have to lose by doing this?

I don’t really value much that Pagnotta says. Of all the so called “sources” he’s by far the worst

He is a reporter (but I get what you’re saying). Although James Nichols holds the title as most off-base Devils scribe.

Pagnotta reported it after what sounded like a conversation with Fitzgerald. And it makes sense.

          But we shall see.

In the season with protectionsc sure on Ullmark. For just 1 year of him the price goes down imo

Also it may be the optimist in me but I think we can do a touch better in all these trades. A touch less for Hanifin, a touch more for toffoli, a touch less for Ullmark. I trust Fitzy as a great trade negotiator

Maybe but this shows, even if we did pay these prices, this team would be more than fine

Oh for sure. The fact that I’m haggling over like a stillman or a 3rd on toffoli or a 4th coming back from Calgary shows that you’re pretty on the money

IMO, moving Toffoli is a must at this years TDL. If you can get a 1st+ for him, you have to do it especially when Holtz has produced so well at 5v5 which is shocking considering who he’s played with. Picking up a guy like Tatar, or another solid 3rd line two way forward, would also really help this team. We know Tatar works with Nico and Haula so I think it’s a perfect fit at the deadline and for cheap next year as we wait for Gritsyuk, Hämeenaho, Filmon, and Stillman

I’ve been on the trade toff train for a while. Like him as a player and a person but I don’t feel like the fit is there. He’s just a touch too slow (which also makes me think Hameemaho should be a guy we use as a trade chip too, he’s also quite slow)

We certainly have been selecting more left handed forwards as of late. Outside of Lysell and Duran, we really don’t have many right shot guys at all and I see Duran as more of an AHL guy.

My guess is Steen will leave as a Grouo 6 UFA. He’s really behind a lot of people and my belief is he should be sent down now to make room for Lysell

They lose $2.6m in cap hit for a goalie with a save % below .900, and still lose $1.6 waiving him. He is objectively a negative asset, you need to give up additional positive assets to move him.
