Kaapo

Description
It's reported that Drury is listening to offers for Kaapo. I do think the Hawks should take a swing at him and see if they can develop him into a Brandon Saad type of player to play on a line with Bedard. Gives Bedard a power forward that is defensively responsible.

this is the hockey equivalent of trying to trade beans for a cow.
what is this? every single one of those pieces youre trading to NYR can quite literally be acquired for nothing.

3C is needed, 3rd line RW is needed and a 7th d man. I don't think Kaapo is going to land a haul, probably worth a late first or a couple 2nds

Yeah but he's clearly out of favor for Drury and he's listening to offers. I think there's a better than 50% chance he is gone soon.

Listening to offers isn’t the same thing as wanting to trade him

It’s the same trash as last year when the media said “Laffy is on the trade block”

Don't think hawks will be in on Kakko. Bowman is gone, so no more needing to take on reclamation projects. Just focus on drafting and developing our own talent. If we got him for a deal then id be fine with it but I et enough other teams would be interested that that won't happen.

I don't think letting expiring contracts (Raddysh or Johnson) is a concern and Raddysh is unlikely to be resigned. The other think that is reported is the Hawks are willing to trade some of their 2nd and 3rd round picks for players that can help them through the rebuild and we need help at RW

No, but Kaapo is older than Laffy and the results are underwhelming for a longer duration and he's clearly falling out of favor so not the same as Laffy last year.

I don’t see how he’s falling out of favor lol. They have no RWs, they have no cap for a big splash and none of the top 6 forwards play defense

You literally said he’s falling out of favor lmao. What’s the matter you can’t come up with a logical reason for the rangers to actually move on from Kakko?

Literally the only reasons NYR should trade Kakko is him asking too much on the next contract or he requests trade out

The other thing is this would be a waste of contract spots. Rangers are currently at 46. This would bring them to 48.
The rangers are always in on college free agents and this type of trade would limit them.

logical reason: 5 seasons 267 games played, 104 points and only 49 goals. He's not a piece that is going to help them in the playoffs, just like last year when he sat on the bench for a couple games. In the playoffs he's even worse with 7 points in 29 games. At some point, unless NY is fine with him as simply a 4th line defensive forward, then they need to use Kaapo to get pieces for a playoff push and they desperately need a 3C with Chytil out or they are doomed.

Johnson isn't a legit player to cover for Chytil being out? A couple rings, 65 points in 116 games in the playoffs would suggest he's more of a legit player than Kaapo with 7 points in 29 games in the playoffs no? Even recently on a terrible team the last two years, Johnson way outperforms Kaapo in production plus he's a center unlike Kaapo. The NYR need to focus on playoff hockey, not worry about Kaapo who has 5 years in the league, was benched in the playoffs last year, and appears to be nothing more than a 4th liner for the Rangers again this season. Kaapo is at best worth a late 1st at this point, and more likely a early 2nd rounder; after 5 years his predraft status is gone.

I mean if you only care about points then yea you won’t like him. Not every single young player is a PPG but still contributes in other ways

They need need right wingers, they have no cap, they need defensive forwards, etc. Who do you recommend they replace him with? Tarasenko? Great his cap hit is higher, it’ll cost more than Kakko to get him, he’s a rental and also an aging vet

Kaapo is playing like a 4th liner...fine...most playoff teams need a defense forward line for the 4th line, BUT cash in the chips on Kaapo and fill the biggest need right now which is 3C point blank. The Rangers are struggling to score at 5 on 5....they need offensive help and a combination of Johnson at 3C and Raddysh on the 3rd line RW is much more valuable in the post season than Kaapo.
