The retention alone costs you the first round pick. Those players aren't getting hanifan and tanev. Then for some reason we send a 3rd back?

I was wondering where the rest of the assets were in the Flames trade - that doesn't get Hanifin with that retention much less Tanvev as well.

Yeah but it's the responsibility of the 31 other teams to service the Leafs needs at all times.

If you read his comments the Flames are not the team that is retaining the salary. Not that it makes the deal any better really
