That being said Lou probably does it.

I disagree. He’s on an unsustainable shooting bender, it’s only going to go downhill from here. Isles need more top 6 play drivers, not middle 6 wingers.

He's shooting 13% slightly elevated from his usual around 11% hardly an unsustainably high bender like Reinhart, or Horvat who Lou traded for last year.

He also has more goals than anyone on the Islanders, so he's hardly a middle 6 player at the moment.

It's a bad idea yes, but when has Lou made a bad deadline deal with the Isles?

2019: did nothing at the deadline
2020: they desperately needed another center and got the best one available in JGP; went to the ECF
2021: they desperately needed a replacement for Lee after he tore his ACL and got Palms and Zajac and enough salary retainage to fit them both; went to the ECF
2022: out of a playoff spot, did nothing
2023: spent big and got Horvat who is working out great so far (even if they did get bounced in the first round last year).

He’s below average at driving offense and defense at even strength. He’d be the 6th best forward on the isles. That’s not worth paying a premium for

Isles are NOT making the playoffs.
