Respectfully - two takes from Habs fans who have a vested interest in wanting a team to over pay for a good center/wing who is on an expiring contract. In reality, Monahan is worth a 2nd and a prospect…which is about the same price every year that good players go for.
These are not binary things. Teams who were looking at Lindholm are not REQUIRED to do anything. They could simply not trade at all, or maybe shift resources to another area of need.
Vancouver paid more to have Flames make this move now, many weeks before the deadline.
I’ve seen some posts on here since last night that are truly baffling. Monahan wouldn’t even return Kakko alone.
I don't stand to gain anything here. It's simple supply and demand. Supply has decreased so demand on the remainder goes up. As I said, that isn't limited to Monahan. Henrique will draw more interest now as well.
I can't control what other people believe the return will be.
I also stated it doesn't necessarily raise Monahan's value, but there will definitely be more teams considering meeting the original price.
Yes, they can do other things. There's always a plan B, C, etc.
That doesn't change the fact that, for every team looking to acquire a middle 6 center, Monahan (et al) are plan A, and the opportunities to proceed with plan A are finite.
