Description
This is a Canucks trade proposal, but it is based around the Leafs getting Tanev (and therefore obviously the Canucks do not get Tanev) so I did from their perspective. The trade value for Tanev, is not the point of this thread.

Without Tanev Canucks have a RD/LD imbalance, and Toronto now has extra RD depth especially since they can keep Brodie in this situation. I'd love to get Liljigren if the Leafs are willing trade him (which I don't see why they would), and the Canucks would need to add in that case. Realistically I think a trade involving Timmins is possible and the Canucks could probably recoup their third, make a little cap space and get a solid RD, who they can probably resign at a way more reasonable rate than Zadorov. IMO, if the Canucks keep Zadorov they should only use him as a rental as I don't think it makes sense to sign Zadorov at the price he will command when they've got Soucy and Hughes ahead of him.

Détails additionnels:
Or Liljegren, but picks would probably switch sides to balance. I went with this one since it's more realistic.

Canuck fans must be having buyers remorse eh? Trying to pawn off a guy they aren't happy with for more than they paid.

Canucks fans are happy with Zadorov. It’s been more Toronto fans trying to trade for him than Canucks fans trying to move him

If the Canucks move Zadorov (unlikely) then they won’t be retaining

Can’t see the Canucks moving Zadorov. If they did, this deal doesn’t make any sense. Timmins would be waiver fodder and probably get claimed, and trading a guy you acquired for a 3rd + 5th for a single 3rd while having to retain $2M is a terrible decision.

Not really he's been great. It's just a rumor that the Canucks want to allocate the cap space towards an elite forward. I'd be surprised if he actually gets traded.

Idk if any team has traded for a player mid-season than trade them that same season. I also thought that Vancouver was happy with his play.

It is more utter disbelief for how good this team is showing it can be, and therefore a will to go big game hunting at the TDL. They need cap space to do that, and Zadorov would be an easy move if it means you can get someone that really solidifies your top 4.

That said, Zadorov has been great and really elevated the Canucks bottom line on the back end.

As for this trade, I definitely wouldn't do it as the Canucks. Unless you're making a legit improvement on the right side (e.g. Tanev, Pesce, Hronek 2.0), I think having a big, gritty defenseman like Z is too valuable.

No Zadorov has been full value. Worth the price, but our left and right side is unbalanced when fully healthy and I don't think the Canucks should resign Zadorov for what he is expected to demand given that I think he isn't better than Soucy and that would make him a very overpaid bottom pair LD.

I don't get why the Leafs undervalue Timmins so much, I think he's great for his contract and he's locked for another year at a reasonable price that fits our cap structure. If he's waiver fodder, then the price can be adjusted to match values, I did say the picks might be different. Retention could also come from a third team.

Sometimes, people are trying to you know make a win-win that works for both teams. That was the idea here.

Teams have done so. I think the Canucks could do it if they send Zadorov somewhere he is happy to go and the Canucks aren't planning to resign him and they can spin it as giving him a chance somewhere else.

Would seem awfully unlikely
