Doesn't matter his analytics are personal to him. Sure playing with better players will make the team stat there better but ultimately the analytics don't support that he's worth that much plus 4 min of pp time goes crazy to boost his stats artificially to seem better than he is

barely any stat are ''individual stats'' in the end. his personal analytics would go up with better players too, same point apply.

i didnt came here to talk about his worth or price tag. I just feel its an unfair argument to choose to ignore pp stats and only focus on 5v5.

i know on a contender he would get at best second time powerplay and would get less points.

he would also play with better players and defence on a second or third line and also get more points at 5v5.

like i said for this year, he is always the best one his line.

He's definitely not the 2nd best center he's just onow to be available. His Analytics are poor and based om that I'd rather perry for a playoff run than Monahan.

Hes also not as good as copp Bertuzzi Barbashev when they were traded, had better analytics and don't have injury concerns

Name another C available other than Lindholm who is better (there is only Henrique who is debatable). FYI, if you think Novak, he isn’t available unless a huge overpay and even then, Nashville would rather keep him as they are still competing for the playoffs.

When he was traded, Copp never had a 40 pts season. Yes, he was on pace for 51, but he still wasn’t good offensively until then. Teams could easily determine an irregularity.

Barbashev also was a 4c until the season before. When he was traded, he had a worse pace than Monahan now.

Bertuzzi also didn’t have a lot of great season. One really good one but wasn’t good at all the season he was traded. He also plays a lesser valuable position.

Another guy who had a worse season than Monahan when he was traded for a first, a second and a third was O’Reilly, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to use him as an example due to his experience and pedigree in the league.

On top of that, the reported asking price for Monahan is a first or a second and a good prospect and Hughes is known for rarely changing his asks.

I could see maybe a high second, but really not less than that. The worst comparison for him is Domi. He got a second last year. But Domi is known to be a playoffs ghost (at least he was in Mtl, don’t know if he did better in Carolina).

I’m not saying the goals don’t count.

An acquiring team does not care about Monahan’s past production. They care about how he will impact their roster going forward.

As I have stated, he’s not anything special on the power play. So generally not going to provide a boost there.

His PK metrics are also underwhelming. Again a depth option there for whatever team acquires him but more likely they just already have 6 guys better at it and Monahan just doesn’t fill that role.

And at 5v5 his results have been bad.

So if he’s not helping improve your power play, your penalty kill, or your 5v5 play. Then how is helping a contender?

well if they dont look at past production, then why would you care about any stats at all? not sure what your point is with this sentence?

anyway, like i said, a tram acquiring would know that the reason he has not so great 5v5 numbers its because he has been playing mostly with bad players.

a team acquiring him would know that putting him not with ahl plugs would also make his productions and metrics go up too.

would be a good option for the second wave of pp too. you know if someone's injured he can be a decent option to replace on power play 1 too.

players on our second line playing with monahan would be lucky to be on a 4th line of a contender.

Bad results with bad linemates ≠ good results with good linemates

The metrics say he’s actually declined since the Calgary trade.

well he also score 80+ points with good line mates too.

somehow when skinner was playing on the 4th line in bufallo he was bad and suddenly he is a point per game players a few years after. what did the.metric said about that.

Yes, those migthy metrics. how many metrics do you need to score to win again?

Was playing Monahan 4 minutes a night on the PP the plan to try and artificially make his numbers look better and inflate a trade return?

Bc his 5v5 results are UGLY, both offensively and defensively

Some pretty good players were in similar company last season with their point shares on the power play.
RNH, Boldy, Draisaitl (above 50%)
Batherson, McDavid, Debrincat, Tavares, JEE, Perron, Kucherov (above 43%)
I don't see anyone arguing that their stats are artificially inflated.

Montreal's bottom 5th in 5v5 scoring, his winger quality has been pretty low with significant scoring slumps among them, and they have one of the youngest d-corps in the league.
Of course 5v5 results are going to be bad.
There's no grand scheme to increase his value. We could have sheltered him and given him better wingers and offensive zone time.
Quite the opposite. He's been deployed defensively for the first time in his career since his sophomore season and in all situations.

You named a lot of guys who are elite power play weapons

I also would argue that JEE, Perron, RNH, Boldy have inflated stats

That was a long time ago. Since then Calgary paid a 1st just to get rid of him. There’s a reason for that

yep, a player that was dumped 2 years ago will get probably a second rounder at least at the deadline (and maybe more) . crazy huh.

That's terrible for Winnipeg. Both pieces are far more valuable than Monahan to the Jets.

yikes jammer!!
