Description
I am very happy with how well we have been playing, nobody would have thought this would happen a couple of months ago (outside of diehard Oilers fans).

With that being said, this team still needs to add. The rumours are three forwards (one being Holloway), a goalie, and an RD. Additionally, it will cost between 2-3 firsts to dump Campbell, making any trade unrealistic and a buy-out this off-season being the most likely situation.

While I am ok with paying that price to dump Campbell, we really can't add to the team if we trade those assets, the two rumours don't mutually co-exist.

You kind of have to choose between a top-6 forward and bottom pairing RD or a bottom-six forward and a top-4 RD, given the assets we have. So just watching Ceci play man he's got to go, not only for cap but because we need an upgrade there. Vinny has been playing great, outplaying Ceci, we shouldn't trade for someone to replace Vinny.

Trade explanations:

1. Ceci dump. Kind of modelled after Zaitsev dump last year (Zaitsev was more AAV). I think dump trades are a crap shoot and nobody knows what the value is until it happens, so you can get upset over it or say it's not enough, it may not be, but I think it's pretty fair.

2. Boqvist/Bemstrom: I think these are the two guys who Edmonton have wanted from Columbus. I think Boqvist would be a great pairing for Nurse because of his skating ability, and he's young. It's also a great contract. I think he's for sure worth a 1st + (in this case a 3rd. Broberg is just a swap for Bemstrom (who was waived earlier this year although that may increase his value). Columbus fans could argue that they probably don't need Broberg which may be true, so maybe it could be something else instead. But I think Broberg>Bean in any case and Bean would get the 7th D spot from Boqvist. Idk I think CBJ fans may not agree with this one.

3. Lindgren: Another one some fans might not agree with. I think Oilers fans might not like this one, and funnily enough Caps fans might not either LOL. I really really really like Lindgren, he's been great this year. I'd for sure trade whatever it takes for him if he's available (he's my top goalie target), that is "if" he's available. So you have to pay up to pry him away, and he's got a great contract, and teams know the Oilers need a goalie... that's why I paid a premium price for him.

4. Johansson: This is a trade I don't think the Oilers need to make but if they want a top-6 forward their options are limited for someone making around a million. Johansson was traded for a 3rd last year, so given the retention I think giving up a 1st and getting a 3rd back is fair. Lachance is just for the 4th so the Oilers have more bullets after trading the picks that I did (as I mentioned I don't think the odds are high of the Oilers signing him). An alternative could be getting Maroon for a 5th instead which would work but isn't a top-6 forward.

So basically the Oilers "wants" correlating to my trades:
1. Goalie (Lindgren)
2. Top 4 RD (Boqvist)
3. Top 6 forward (Johansson)
4. Bottom 6 forward (Bemstrom)
5. Also get 2 draft picks back

Total Cost:
- Ceci
- Bourgy
- Broberg
- Lachance
- '24 1st
- '25 1st
- '24 2nd
- '26 2nd
- '25 3rd
- '26 4th

This is undoubtedly going "all-in" but I don't see how they fill all those wants without paying this much. I think it's worth it, who cares about picks?

Sorry for any spelling errors in the trade descriptions.

You could 100% argue it might cost more to dump Ceci, just don't say it's a 1st cause that's not true.

Thinking similar to the Zaitsev deal a year ago. It takes probably a 2nd + 4th minimum to move Ceci (which is excatly the trade). Although, Ceci makes left than Zaitsev.

    1. Bemström, Emil
    2. Boqvist, Adam
    Détails additionnels:
Think of this essentially as a 1st and 3rd for Boqvist (I'm not sure of his value here at all). And then Broberg for Boqvist which had been rumoured earlier this season with Bemstrom on waivers and Brobergs trade request.

Boqvist really feels like the player the Oilers were scouting all this time, he 'fits' more than Elvis or Peeke do.

    1. Lindgren, Charlie
    Détails additionnels:
Lindgren would be my #1 choice in terms of goalies. Fine age and term, and he has played this year like a starter (and after the back to back this weekend he might've stolen it). But ultimately with the depth they have I think the Caps should cash in for some higher level assets.

    Détails additionnels:
This may look like a massive overpay for him but I think it's worth it to get a solid 1B who is having a career year, especially when we need goaltending, have no cap, and all the other teams know it.

    Détails additionnels:
1st for half retention really. Traded a 3rd for him last year, he's been solid. The picks back are so the Oilers have at least some bullets. I think the value is fair, I don't have a good feeling about Lachance signing in Edmonton, but Minny has a great track record of signing college guys. He's been great at BU

    Détails additionnels:
This is a trade to make if they want to add a top-6 forward. Alternative option could be like Maroon for Lachane, but I'd like Johansson more and at that term.

I think the Sharks would accept that Ceci dump. Sharks also have a surplus of affordable RD. Edmonton might be interested in: Benning, Burroughs, Rutta,

Not trying to be a d!ck but these are awful for Edmonton, you're overpaying in most of them.

Seriously what is that Cbus trade, those guys are worth like a 3rd each maybe and Boqvist just isn't built for top 4 work by the sounds of it, pretty sure he's been scratched a fair bit this season, probably better off with Ceci.

The only trade I don't mind here is the Caps trade, while it is an overpay, that might be what it takes to get Lindgren cause the Caps don't have a reason to move him.

Way too many good assets sent out for lower end returns which is just awful asset management, the Oilers can't afford to just toss around their best trade chips.

A team dominating xgoals in a MAJOR way getting some of the worst goaltending I’ve ever seen becomes a dominant team after the goaltending becomes competent.

    Cant say I’m shocked

That is an absurd overpay to Columbus, I’m sorry to say. Boqvist’s value was on his potential, and he’s run out of runway there because he can’t stay healthy. Not sure how much value he’d have to Edmonton, either, since he’s a PP merchant (which he’s very good at… but Edmonton has Bouchard).

As much as I agree that you've overpaid a bit here, the Caps genuinely might be looking for a little more with how good Chucky has been in Washington. With a year and a half left on his deal at 1.1 mil, that's an absolute steal value-wise and probably bumps his trade value even higher.

    All that said, good trade
