Description
I wouldn’t give Igor more than $7.5m. Giving a 29 year old goalie a massive contract would kill this team

You could probably work out a deal based around Marner for Igor

Most of the trades I made was avoiding large contracts because I can’t read the future (Laffy extension, big free agency splash, etc.)

I think you are kind of screwed either way if Igor want's a massive extension... either you're giving a very risky contract out, or you are trading one of your only reason for success over the last few years

Igor is this team. You’d have to trade him now tho to get a real haul and it would ruin your chances of winning anything come playoff time

No shot, a top 15 player is X10 more valuable than a top 5 goalie. Rangers would have to add a top prospect and some picks

They should trade him ASAP in my unbiased opinion.

Surely a team that is average in chance creation and prevention will succeed without their all world netminder

The rangers have constantly turned “nobody” goalies into quality starters, hence being able to trade him (Hank, Georgiev, Talbot, Igor, Quick at 37, etc.)

They have the best goalie coach in the league so they can turn whoever they get into a quality starter while focusing on upgrading offense and defense

No from Detroit. Defense needs to get better before before that kind of move gets made.

"The rangers have constantly turned “nobody” goalies into quality starters, hence being able to trade him"- I don't think you luck into yet another elite goalie after having two in a row. They might be able to temporarily figure out the position but probably not somebody long-term.

Skinner would definitely be of return, but Holloway is eh to me. They would still be competing so a guy like Hyman would be needed over Holloway

Either the Montreal or Ottawa trade would be great. But I wonder if they are in the position to consider Igor right now. Probably Ottawa moreso than MTL since MTL is in a full fledged rebuild and still drafting their future, while Ottawa was supposed to start being a playoff team already this year. Maybe the Leafs or Oilers would be a good fit (Minten or Knies in particular could be huge for adding to the Youth Core).

The Rangers need to look out though, because I get the sense that Igor is no Hank in terms of the connection to NYC and passion about being a Ranger. So if he's going to seek out the biggest payday, which NY might not be able to give him, those conversations should be taking place NOW, and we can move him

What do you call Quick being revitalized? Or undrafted Georgiev and Talbot being good? Lol

You better hope Garand doesn’t turn out to be better than expected because he has shown flashes

Also hence why I traded for some goalie prospects in some of the trades

Goalies never get traded for a package like that. Last time i can remember a quality G being traded was Schneider from Canucks ... and he fetched a 9 OA that was it. He wasnt a 30 year old UFA G. It isnt happening for anything close to that anywhere

I guess that's the issue with two competing teams trading. Mcdavid, Drai, Hyman, Nuge, Bouch, Ekholm and Nurse are all untouchable in any trade imo. Would the Rangers want Kane at all?

The Rangers don't "luck" into goalies. We have the best goalie coach in the league, probably in the world. You don't go from a Richter to a Lundqvist to a Shesterkin (and other great non-starters like Talbot, Georgiev, Halak, and now Quick) by pure "luck"

What do you call Quick being revitalized? Or undrafted Georgiev and Talbot being good? Lol

You better hope Garand doesn’t turn out to be better than expected because he has shown flashes

Temporary solutions... Quick isn't gonna be able to handle the work of a starter at his age
Georgiev has shown flashes outside of new york of being a very good goaltender
Talbot has been a very good goaltender usually

That’s why I said a deal based around Marner for Igor I fully agree NY would be fleecing Toronto if it was 1 for 1

Fair enough, definitely came on way too harsh with my response lmao.

I've liked what I've seen from Woll so far personally. I feel like he could be the guy for Toronto in coming years but Igor would obviously be much better

I guess that's the issue with two competing teams trading. Mcdavid, Drai, Hyman, Nuge, Bouch, Ekholm and Nurse are all untouchable in any trade imo. Would the Rangers want Kane at all?

Kane is meh to me as well. Mainly a LW who they have plenty of. Hyman is the exact guy they’re missing

That’s why I targeted fringe playoff teams because it’s hard for two contenders to swap roster players

Igor is a great goalie. Days of goalies making 10m is over. Igor will also need to step up his high end consistency if he wants more than 7.5

The Rangers don't "luck" into goalies. We have the best goalie coach in the league, probably in the world. You don't go from a Richter to a Lundqvist to a Shesterkin (and other great non-starters like Talbot, Georgiev, Halak, and now Quick) by pure "luck"

Talbot and Georgiev are starters who are pretty flukey and just had decent years with the Rags.
Halak had worse numbers in New York than he did in Boston and Long Island
Quick hasn't proven he can keep it up over an entire season at this stage of his career

You don't have a system to insulate goalies like the Hurricanes, Knights, or Flyers do and you don't have a generational talent coming up so you're probably not going to be as good.
