That NJ trade is brutal. Jarry may have had a few bad games but he is still top 10 in WAR this year. While Vanecek is the worst goalie in the NHL this season.

The Guentzel trade is also bad as is the Phili trade

If that's all it takes for Konecny + Walker the Knights would be better off making that move than the Guentzel move

The Guentzel trade is basically a low 1st, a current bottom 6 forward and a future middle 6 forward. It doesn't help the team this season and isn't a needle mover for next season.

You then turn around and trade 2 1sts (one of which is when the Pens might be in the bottom of the league) and a 2nd for a guy who is slightly worse than Guentzel with one more year of control.

So the better player for 1 year (Guentzel) is worth 3x less than the guy for 2 years?

I just don't see it.

I think if we trade Guentzel we gotta keep the first. I think trading Guentzel means we should for sure sell, but even if we wanted to still contend I'd keep the 1st plus prospects, put Puustinen or one of the prospects we get back on the 1st line, then focus on getting more depth in bottom 6 with other assets besides 1sts or our top prospects. Crosby is playing so unreal right now I'm convinced the top line will be good no matter who is on it.
