Avs say no. Byram alone is almost an overpay for JEEK, then add their best prospect Ritchie and a first? Yeah Avs totally say no, Wild definitely say yes though
Uh, no.
JEEK's current market value is rated at $8M, while currently only being paid $5.25M AAV for the next 6 years. It's easily one of the best value contracts in the league. Furthermore, he's a top-six center, the more valued position. Plays a Selke caliber level two-way game, and is arguably the best shutdown center in the league now, sans Bergeron.
Bowen Byram is a oft injured #3 2nd pairing defenseman with a current market value rating of $2.9M.
Their value ain't close there, chief.
Yes, Byram has top pairing upside. No, Minnesota doesn’t care. They
still don't consider this trade. Ritchie is nice, but him, Byram, a disappointment and mistake turned cap dump in Johanson, a late 1st, and a prospect who spurned Minnesota by signing with Colorado over the Wild isn't as appealing as you think it is.
The ONLY pieces of interest in this trade are Ritchie and Byram, and Rossi's emergence as a top-six center this year largely negates the interest in Ritchie. So while Byram is good, he's not THAT good.
For reference, JEEK is easily the 2nd most important and untouchable player on their roster after Kaprizov. Over Boldy, over Spurgeon, over Brodin. Over everyone.
