Minten is untouchable so long as they have 1st to spend and zero chance they spend more then 1 1st this year just ain’t gonna happen and I personally wouldn’t do that Seattle trade seems like an overpayment when the guy isn’t even half retained even if he was half retained I wouldn’t want to send Robertson I’d be fine with sending the 1st though

There is nothing in that blues package that even gets the leafs thinking about adding minten.
And why do you want MAF? He's washed

Just my opinion, but I think we should be willing to move either/both if we can get pieces with term on defense/3c. I don't think Minten has top 6 potential in the NHL, and his value could potentially be quite high after this tournament.

Why would Minten be untouchable? His ceiling is what Hayes is currently, which is a middle six forward with bite and size. The only prospect that is untouchable at this point is Cowan IMO.

MAF is a place holder I guess, I'd rather have a backup making 1.5-2m than Samsonov making 3.5m

Oleksiak is a legit top four guy, the way Muzzin was for the Leafs. I think the Ekholm trade is a good comparison for a trade between the Leafs and Kraken.

I like Minten as much as the next guy, but you gotta be realistic about what he'll grow into. He's not going to be a 2C and if trading him means getting immediately better, I think that's a move that'd be worth making.

Cowan is having a season comparable to Marner's D+1 year. Minten is having a good year, but making the World Juniors isn't a lock to be a slam-dunk NHLer.

Gauthier was also a near PPG player in his D+2 season, and he made the World Jrs roster too. He was a solid player, but you would have never labelled him untouchable back in 2015.

Who's someone you'd have the Leafs target? And what would you have them pay to get them?

Dubas traded for McCabe (@ 50% retained), who is a 4D for a first-round pick. Oleksiak is closer to a 2/3D al a Muzzin or Ekholm. To expect retention and only give up a first isn't realistic at all.

Walker tanev anyone who’s on the last year of their deal Oleksiak isn’t even going to be dealt cause he isn’t on the last year of his contract

I mean, that's fine. You can believe that he's untouchable, again I believe there's a world where down the line he develops into a shutdown 2/3C like Cirelli.

I've tried finding where the Leafs said he's untouchable, and there's nothing that comes up. Maybe I'm just not looking at the right places, could you tell me where and when that was made clear?

Muzzin, Ekholm, Lindholm, and Skjei all were traded in season while having term attached to their contracts.

Walker and Tanev are interesting, but Walker isn't what the Leafs would be looking for, and giving up a first for Tanev excites me less and less the more time goes on.

The rental market is kind of limited this year, which is why I'd target a guy with term

That's fair, I know he's a bit of a fan favourite in St. Louis. If the Blues are out of playoff contention come the deadline would Sundqvist still be off the table?

I'd imagine they'll extend him. And yeah, Sunny turned other offers for more money to come back for the minimum.

What do the leafs lack? Forwards with bite, so why trade an ELC contract 3C for next season from a team with major cap issues.

Personally I think Seattle would jump at that offer with or without Samsonov. Toronto is going to have to take Gru or Driedger on the return through if Samsonov comes their way.
