The only reason the Sabres would trade away EJ at this point is to open up a roster spot so I doubt they would want another player back. Especially one that's worse than EJ.

kadri is an upgrade for our 2C for sure but that contract handcuffs us for the foreseeable future.

MacDermid can be buried in the AHL at no cost. EJ is very expensive for his role in the NHL at this point.

Same with Kadri: he might not be that expensive today, but Colorado didn’t sign him because of how that contract will look in 5 years.

I mean the only way this would ever happen is if the flames retained 2.5 million. Now if they did that we’d also have to give up a lot

Edit: Retaining for for 5.5 years is a real hard sell

I said he’s probably a great locker room presence. But on the ice he’s well past his prime and is overpaid. MacDermid sucks but at least he can be buried in the AHL.

I am the #1 MacDermid hater here, but somehow I think he has more value than EJ
